Whatever you do...DON'T watch "one hour photo" I watched it this afternoon and what a drag! I was so disapointed...Robin Williams is one of my favorite actors, but this was just bad!

Minority Report was a hit as far as I'm concerned or Austin Powers Gold member if you like a good comedy! :D

Purple Haze

That's exactly what I would have said - excellent pick. Another faithful standby for me for pure entertainment is The Devil's Advocate.

Kris:

I know only the original version of Das Boot so it's German... It's long and the beginning is quite boring... but I think it's really a good movie!

capribex 02-22-2003 01:43 PM

1. Hidden Dragon Crouching Tiger
2. Magnolia
3. Gretchen and the 4 getho-brothers who wouldn't take "no" for an answer

Pidgin 02-22-2003 08:57 PM

Capribex: Is no.3 with english subtitles? ;)
Kris/wsjb78: What is Das Boot??
XXXPhoto: Lots of movise I never saw.. interesting..

Im a fool for "quality" pictures to tell you the truth. I like action/comedy as well but the ones I remeber are those that "want to say" something..
Ocassionally there is a good movie coming from Hollywood that saves them (imho)
For example:
The big Kahuna. Great movie
Usual suspect
American beauty
Fisher king

(Freakish as it sounds, three of them happen to have one actor in common but its an accident cause in atleast one of them he is not the main reason for the movie being good)

Agree... Most of the selections on that list are old b/w movies dealing with dialogue and a real story... No car chases, special effects, or blazing gun battles really... just developed plot that's engaging and extertaining...

A more recent movie of this type is called "Closetland" and stars Alan Rickman (Die Hard villian and Sheriff in Robin Hood movies) Definate mind-fuck type of movie if you enjoy that sort of mental entertainment... ;^Ð

12 Angry Men - Seen it. Both the original and the new version. Both amazing. I mistakenly remembered a different name till I though about it again. I though it was named "the Jury" or something..
Witness for the Prosecution - Think I saw. not sure. Its agatha christy - right?
Casablanca - Classic though I found it somewhat boring. I think I skipped in the middle.
Cain Mutiny - Don't know what it is. Counld'nt find a movie by that name. Do you mean "Citizen Kane"??
Cool Hand Luke - Dont think I've seen.
The Good, Bad, Ugly - Classic. Saw several times ;)
Heat of the Night - Didn't see
Stalag 17 - Didn't see as far as I can remember
King Rat - Didn't see
Raisin in the Sun - Didn't see

The cain one reminded me or Citizen Kane - which is amazing.
Also reminded me of - Great dictator and Dr Strangelove(or how I learned to stop worrying and love the bomb) :D muhaha
Also - Rear window - which is most probably the best directing by hitchcock.
Name of the rose is also very good.

But from the above I think only 12 angry man fits in my top-10. rear-window might be if I make a top-10 of directing and Citizen Kane makes it to the top-10 for acting.

XXXManager:

Das Boot (probably english title would be The Boat or The U-Boat) is a German Anti-War film based on the story of U96. I rather think it's a good movie however the beginning is somewhat slow.

firehorse 02-23-2003 06:14 AM

I have many films I like too hard to pick a favourite, depends on mood.

A few I really like are

Enter The Dragon
Way Of The Dragon
The Matrix
Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon
The Blues Brothers

I'll stop there before I name too many

Pidgin 02-23-2003 08:31 AM

FireHorse: You really like Dragons.. don't you? :D
did you see Dragonheart?

wsjb78 02-23-2003 09:06 AM

XXXManager: If you're intersted have a read here: http://www.uboatwar.net/boote.htm

Dragons are cool.. just watched Dragonheart 2 days ago... have seen Reign Of Fire at home (didn't bother to go to the movie theater)...

TTT 02-23-2003 10:48 AM

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest is very good, thought provoking. If you can get the director's commentary it is even better (have to watch it twice though! once normally, once with the commentary)

gabrio 02-23-2003 11:43 AM

there are many i LOVE...though one of the funnies and better ones i always watch lately is 'The Big Lebowsky'

LOL :p
