Office or Home?

Do you work from an office or just at home?

I work out of the office everyday but still work when I'm at home too.

Bobby Vicious 03-27-2003 01:21 PM

Home !

Funbrunette 03-27-2003 02:12 PM

I work from home, but I think I'd prefer to work in an office...Less distractions! ::-|

luke 03-27-2003 02:15 PM

I agree, sounds like it would be nice to work from the home but I know I can get A LOT more done when I'm here at the office. No tv, no roommate, etc.

Titus 03-27-2003 02:21 PM

Definitely an office. There is something motivating about being around 4-5 other people who are all working hard. And going into a 'job' allows (a little) separation between work/life.

Thanks FB :)

Office

zoe_zoebaboe 03-27-2003 03:05 PM

I like home, I have my cats walking around and my music to listen to, I usually feel better in my room anyways :)

Magnus3x 03-27-2003 03:10 PM

Home.. it's easier to snap one off!

FreeNetPassDave 03-27-2003 03:22 PM

Both :)

Our entire staff used to work from home, and that caused a few productivity issues. The office is much better in terms of communication and getting things done, but I sure miss working in nothing but my boxers LOL.

twinkley 03-27-2003 04:40 PM

This is actually an ongoing debate in my office right now...

Half of us (including me) work in an office - 9-5 monday through friday. The other half telecommute from all across the country. As it stands there are only 4 of us now (used to be more) that come into the office daily and we all live closer to each other than the office.

The debate rages on whether or not we will be more productive/more cost effective working from our homes, or from an office closer to all our homes.

Being the boss, Oz wants us all within shouting distance - being well... us, we want to work from home ... in our boxers (or lack thereof)

I personally have never worked from home before and am slightly worried that i will not actually be able to focus on work the hours the boss wants us too.....

Guess we will see - I will keep ya posted!

FreeNetPassDave 03-27-2003 04:51 PM

Twinkley, speaking from experience i can honestly say that working from home is tough for many people, and although I thought working from home would increase productivity it did just the opposite :(.

If you are looking for "teamwork" to be an important part of your company it is very difficult to do with everyone working at home, no matter if you are all in the same chat room, on icq, netmeetings, or whatever.

Good luck though whatever you guys do!

Danny_C 03-27-2003 04:53 PM

I worked at home for years and although I got distracted a bit, I made up for it by working longer hours.

Now I come to an office, get my 8 to 10 hours a day in, and go home. At home, I can get a little more work done if necessary, or I can forget about work completely and relax. I definitely like that better.

Over all, I do think I manage to get more done in the office.

FreeNetPassDave 03-27-2003 04:57 PM

Yeah, guys are actually probably worse that gals. Guys in the porn biz have a tendancy to get distracted and go on long masturbation stretches, sometimes lasting for two hours.

Or is that just me?

HAHAHA! YEAH! Two hours is a long time though... the faster the better I say. If you're fast enough you can rub one out in the office before anybody suspects a thing. By the way, we're out of tissue ::-|

That is why I always see you ducking when I walk in..

Mystery Man 03-27-2003 05:08 PM

Office, though my office has almost become my 2nd home, shit I spent more time at the office than I do in my own apartment

twinkley 03-27-2003 05:39 PM

Yeah....

I guess i can see why the guys would be okay with it (both are programmers, dont really have contact with the outside world anyways)

Personally, I think i need to keep that distinction between my work and home life. I already uhhh date someone in the office *and live with him* - that makes things jumbled enough. I think i like the fact that at 5pm on friday, i know i dont have to work anymore if i dont want to.

luke 03-27-2003 06:09 PM

I agree on the teamwork thing. Its good when you can all get together face to face and talk things over then go hammer them out. I think that would be a little more difficult if everyone was at home on their computers. But I still don't like waking up and getting to work for 9am...but hey, nothing I can do about that. I'm just not a morning person at all.

webgurl 03-27-2003 06:42 PM

Home and Self Employed !

Shann 03-27-2003 06:47 PM

I work from home, sometimes i wish i was in an office just a couple days a week, only in the winter though. When summer comes round I can tan and swim during work breaks, also great to have meetings on my deck and tan and drink coolers! LOL

luke 03-27-2003 07:01 PM

That is one thing too, can't drink at the office. Its nice to be able to go home and work while sipping on a stiff jack and coke! haha

Raya 03-27-2003 09:58 PM

Self employed -

I sometimes miss working with a team though. And sometimes the client just doesn't get it. Who do I gripe to. GRUMBLE!

Although I'm so not a morning person, I'm usually getting going when everyone else is calling it a day. Plus being able to do other things during work hours can be great.

luke 03-27-2003 10:02 PM

One thing I left out is that there is a weights, excersize bike, and treadmill in the back so that is nice to have. And after 4 years I'm actually using it now!

StuartD 03-27-2003 10:03 PM

Well, I am just now starting a new job... a full time job in an office cutting up vids.
But then when back home, I'll be working a whole lot on SponsorsList.com so I kinda work at both.. office and home ;)

luke 03-27-2003 10:09 PM

I hear ya, I'm about to head to the house right now and will probobly get back online in a bit. Just a change of atmosphere really but its all the same job.

We have a big workout room here at the office.

Phoenix 03-28-2003 11:02 AM

i work from home..i find it allows me to be more productive, and allows me time to pursue things like the gym, or i can get my shopping done in the day if i am having guests over, i never turn on the television i listen to music though...the only drawback, is i tend to work 14-18 hour days more and more

Maybe I should start a "Drink What You Want Friday" here to! haha I don't think that would go over well.

fish 03-28-2003 02:46 PM

home

Easton 03-28-2003 03:51 PM

home... and we even shoot some girls at my place too! :D

McAttack 03-28-2003 04:17 PM

I do both. Officially, I have the office, but I tend to be working round the clock anyways. But in our office, we do whatever we want, come when we want. As long as the job gets done. No rules like "no drinking" or stuff. You want a shot of vodka, go to the fridge and get one. Want a beer? Get one. Want a stogie? Light it up baby!

I tell you, nothing more satisfying after the completion of a project than a nice drink and a cuban cigar in the office!

Unless you add strippers of course. :)

luke 03-28-2003 04:33 PM

Strippers are always good.

All this talking about drinking is making me want one! Got a feeling I'll be getting liquored up tonight!

pornodoggy 03-28-2003 06:35 PM

I have an office right here in my home. That twenty-pace commute from work to bed can be a long one sometimes.

Stilgar 03-30-2003 12:14 AM

I still have my day job as a network admin, but I do this job all from home... although I really wish I had an office to do this from, much fewer distractions.
