Keep your filthy hands off my ruins!
What's with people destroying ancient ruins?
Yesterday someone toppled a column at an excavation site at Pompeii - the ancient city that was burried alive when Mount Vesuvius erupted http://img479.imageshack.us/img479/2...34italyag2.jpg Then you have the Buddhas of Bamian destroyed by the Taliban http://img479.imageshack.us/img479/6476/74849352xo1.jpg There is the Sphinx fabled to be desecrated by Napoleon http://img474.imageshack.us/img474/3451/sphynxlo3.jpg What's with these assholes? |
well, i can say they don't value the works of ancient people, moreso their forefathers...they don't see antiquity as something to be treasured but something soon to die which should be replaced...It's nice to know that there are still people like you..;)

Power. You destroy what many in a society love, and you get power, distinction. You hope by the act of destroying a beloved item, the people you would impose dominance over will bend to your will.
For others, like the Pompeii incident above, I'm sure its because it makes them feel big in the pants. |
Whatever it is, it is Very disappointing! I guess nothing is safe! And unfortunately the problem will continue! :geez:

I spilled coffee on my uni-stone patio. Left a stain. You know, the kind of coffee stain that never really goes away?
That patio has been there since 1998! |

The best (or worst I should say) one was a Mayan temple considered to be the most important artifact of their empire being damaged by a crane while a crew of people were trying to film it for a beer commercial.
This Bud's for a loss of ancient history ! |
