The Seven Ancient Principles of Hermes

Evil Chris 06-13-2007 10:37 AM

Inspiraton comes in many forms.
What works for some, may seem silly to others.

I'm going to read it after FB is done with it. :)

As always babe you know your shit! :xthumbs:

THE SEVEN HERMETIC PRINCIPLES

The principles of truth are seven; the seven hermetic principals, upon which the entire Hermetic philosophy is based, are as follows:

1.The Principle of mentalism: "The All is mind, the Universe is mental."

2.The Principle of correspondence: "As above, so below; as below, so above."

3.The principle of vibration: "Nothing rests, everything moves; everything vibrates."

4.The principal of polarity: "Everything is dual; everything has poles; everything has its pair of opposites; like and unlike are all the same; opposites are identical in nature, but different in degree; extremes meet; all truths are but half-truths; all paradoxes may be reconciled."

5.The principle of rhythm: "Everything flows, out and in; everything has its tides; all things rise and fall; the pendulum swing manifests in everything; the measure of the swing to the right is the measure of the swing to the left; rhythm compensates."

6.The principle of cause and effect: "Every cause has its effect; every effect has its cause; everything happens according to law; chance is but a name for law not recognized; there are many planes of causation, but nothing escapes the law."

7.The principal of Gender: "Gender is in everything; everything has its masculine and feminine principle; Gender manifests on all planes."

student4ever 06-13-2007 12:51 PM

Just read it a couple months ago and started noticing changes before I was done reading. For anybody who has not read it, I highly recommend it.

Casa Nova - honestly, have you read it?

Panky 06-13-2007 01:00 PM

Sounds interesting. Looks like I now have a reason to go shopping. :)

Quagmire 06-13-2007 01:03 PM

I am going to smoke some pot and read the 7 principles. If that doesn't help, at least I'll be high. ;)

You are not an idiot, I never stated anyone was one for reading it. By all means alot of people can take some good things from it. I just find for me it was alot of principles and rules that you naturally learn through life, or were told by your teachers in grade school. "Think positive, be positive" "if you think negatively and expect failure you will get it" All things that were told to me by teachers or I read in the required reading throughout school. The book just expands on it, but I dont find that it neccesarilly speaks to anything that is groundbreaking.

I never stated I knew everything either, and I'm truely sorry if something i said offended you enough to state that about me, but I was merely stating my opinion of the book, not the people who read it, heck I read it too. I just came away from it with a different opinion then most. I was expecting so much more from the book & felt like i was let down reading things that I had already thought up myself (not to the same degree of course but same principles).

I found I came away with more life lessons in books such as:
The 48 Laws of Power
The Art of Seduction
The Prince
The game
Huananzi
Book of Five Rings

Again sorry if I offended you by my earlier post, it wasn't my intention.

It was a very interesting read and I have used such principles in my daily life for some time now (prior to the book) and they sure have made amazing differences.
The laws of attraction and the power of positive thinking can go a long way.

I have learned not push negative views on how people chose to pursue their life's happiness, whether it be another persons beliefs religiously or otherwise.

The only negative I have to say about all this Secret hype is it has been misinterpreted as a "Think and all things material in life will come my way" no, this is a tool to help you achieve those things through opportunity and clear thinking. Tuning in to what life throws at you and turning it into something positive.

Some people in our current society are ungrateful for what they have, too busy trying to keep up with the jones' with material possessions and are unwilling to serve their fellow man, to them, these philosophies will be missinterpreted.

FB,

I assume you know that the secret is a book intended to make Buddhist principles more "current" so that the reading public can integrate them into their own lives more easily.

If you really found it helpful I urge you to look up an author named Thich Nhat Hanh. He is a Nobel Peace Prize nominee and a Buddhist monk from Viet Nam. His books are truly life changing. His words are so simple and truthful that they are almost undeniable.

Book List

His book "No Death No Fear" remains the greatest written work on the nature of dying that I have ever seen.

So glad that you caught on early .. what a scam .. LOL

Actually dude for most people these things need to be pointed out .. Keeping a clear image of your goals isn't easy for most. what with Life being so hectic and all ... Also visualising your destiny or Where you want to be isn't all it's cracked up to be .. Most folks find it easier to focus on the things they don't want rather then the things they do want ... All in all I think it's great that they've re written it for the 21 century.

Should anyone be interested I also have the video (it's very well done. a la A&E docu. style)

Lastly if you have yet to check out "Clendestine Prophecy" Please do .. it's an excellent book, really helps clear your head and see things from a different angle ... ( when ever I feel lost or find that i've lost focus of my goals. I Pull out this book. Damn I must of read it at least a dozen times since it was given to me by a good dear friend) I'm of the school that everything happens for a reason, good or bad .. in the end, no matter how hard you tryed to change things destiny will take over .. the only tool you have is to control it's outcome.

Have a great weekend and enjoy the wonderful gift god gave you ...

I shit you not I have this book...I'm very spiritual and love reading that stuff! Sure beats tabloid magazines...lol

The Miracle of Mindfulness
was an excellent book!

I haven't read the book but I saw the video. I've already read a lot of this genre of material so I knew most of what the secret had to offer yet it was still very helpful to see the video. Anything that puts us back to a positive mind-frame is good as far as I'm concerned.
