Tom Sawyer
Not the book, but the song... I just heard it, and it takes me back to around 1981, skipping school and playing video games at Gilley's arcade in downtown London, Ontario.
I was just listening to Rush on my itunes the other day! Red Barchetta baby...
Red Barchetta was from the same album and we used to debate over what the "gleaming alloy aircar" really was or what it represented. I agree it's an awesome song...
The whole album "moving pictures" is awesome. In fact I'd have to say it's my 2nd favorite of theirs after "permanent waves".
Unreal how time flies... I was in grade 11 when Moving Pictures came out!!

You were never a Rush fan? |
That's one canadian band that never got to me. Hell I prefer Great Big Sea to Rush.
missed the old days.
I swear at one point in the early 80s... Rush was the greatest band in the world.
If only for about a week. :) |
Some just got Rock Band extension package didn't they? LOL.
Tom Sawyer, great tune... speaking of Arcades, I used to go to the one in Plaza Alexis Nihon or the one out on Ste-Catherine street next to that extinct burger place... My games were Tempest, TailGunner and that asteroid game with real gravity effect... what's it called?
:D |

Rush has always had a very distinct sound to them. So it's not surprising that many people could never get into their sound or the sound of Geddy Lee's voice for that matter.
I saw Rush live back in 2002 and I'll be damned if they didn't sound EXACTLY like their recorded versions from the 70s and 80s. Whether you like a band or not... the ability to perform at the level and accuracy like they did deserves massive respect.
Unlike bands like the Police and REM... both great bands, but both feeling the need to change their songs up like they are works in progress. Lame. |
