I prefer dogs over cats. For 31 years, I've always had a dog, sometimes 2. I don't hate cats. I've just never had one as a pet.

My furry baby is a Weimaraner . The "Sesame Street" dogs.

Now, I'm not a veterinarian, but I play one on TV; and 9 out of 10 of us actors agree: dogs are better than cats.

Visualad 03-02-2003 07:09 PM

I have a cat, Ive had a dog, but IŽll get a new dog once things around here settles andI got more time for one.. I think both of them are best friends of humans, but they act a bit diffirent and behave diffirent.

But in their love for you, there is no diffirence.

BTW Panky...

Weimaraner is on my top5 list when IŽll get around to buying a new dog..

a nice weimaraner is beautiful.

Weims are very loyal dogs. They are good with kids. Highly intelligent. Very curious. They don't require a lot of maintenance. They are however, very stubborn. They do require a lot of time and patience to train them. They learn quick, but they do have minds of their own. They are very mild mannered and very much pack animals. Weims need room to run. They aren't good for small apartments.

There's long haired and short haired Weims. The main thing is to make sure you get one that is called a "block head". The ones that are not block heads have a more rounded head and longer snout. They are not standard Weims. They were bred too close.

I've been called Blockhead before ... and must admit, I took great offense to it ... but now I see it may have well been a compliment ... maybe I should call Ricky Corbett and apoligise for beating the living shit out of him in grade six ????

I am a dog person ... no doubt about that ... but more like Dobermans, Shepherds, and Rotties ... no ankle biters !!!

(Yappy little bastards!!)

Here are my boys (Zeus (blue)and Apollo(black/tan))

I laughed my ass of when somebody pointed out to me that Higgins' Dobes on Magnum PI had the same names ... my were named the 2 strongest Greek gods because of the fact I am Greek.
Both of them are now in Doggy Heaven, as purebred Dobes usually only live to 7-10 years ... I cannot see a dog suffer, so when Apollo developed Lymphoma at the age of 8, I had him put down as the disease progressed ... Zeus, who the vet said had no major illness or abnormalities, did not agree with old age, and became VERY beligerant. He turned on my younger brother one day, causing him to get 35 stiches to his arm, so it was Zeus' time to meet his maker 2 years later (he was 9 years old) :(

I own a dog - a 5 year old Sharpie named Dutch who came home with us from the Humane Society after being abused. I, in turn, am owned by two cats, Trouble and Itty-Bitty. I would post pictures of the cats, but they have so far declined to sign the model release, and I suspect that if I do it without permission they will shit in my shoes - I hate it when they do that.

hershie 03-03-2003 02:27 AM

i was surprised to learn that cats have overtaken dogs as the more popular pet in number in the US and Canada.

i have a cat - about 3 yrs old and runs the show here.

I have a cat, his name is Prince (because my place is his domain)... he's not quite 1 year old yet. And I must say, he doesn't look a day over 0 ;)

using your logic, i should have named mine emperor.

turbo 03-03-2003 06:32 AM

Dogs. Even though mine is smaller than most cats. We took him to get his shots yesterday (saturday) and there were 3 cats there waiting with us and he was half the size of any of the three. lol

This is our little guy.. Jackson!

Miss Novette 03-03-2003 09:56 AM

I have several cats and a dog. :D

Although, I've gotta say, I'm more of a cat person. :)

Mister X 03-03-2003 11:13 AM

I like both. But I think cats are usually less trouble to take care of and they don't need as much training. Currently I have neither one. My last 2 cats just disappeared somewhere and never came home and my only dog had to be put down 2 years ago. So that's enough of that. I actually thought about getting a parrot but then I found out that they can live as long as 70 years, so I changed my mind, hehe. Maybe I'll get some fish or a hamster.

sweetums 03-03-2003 11:14 AM

I'd have to say...

No preference. I'm kinda a furry-creature friendly :)

Have had both cats and dogs in my life...and they always made home a little warmer....

twinkley 03-03-2003 03:17 PM

Well....

I guess I would have to say I am a cat person now.... we have 4 of them :) They are all totally adorable :)

I used to be a total dog person tho - had dogs my entire life growing up... mainly german shepherds :)

StuartD 03-03-2003 03:25 PM

You know Twinkley... they say that a cat is still 95% instincts. They just do things that seem odd, because they are basically instinctual... they don't even realize it themselves.

Anyway, as part of their instinct... they feel very very vulnerable on their back. They feel completely defenceless with their stomach exposed.

This is why you seldom see a cat on their back... it's believed that a cat has to be 100% comfortable with their surroundings, and the people in the room with them, before they'll willingly lie on their back like that.

So it's a good sign... it's a big big sign of affection and trust from your cat when they lie on their back. ;)

Miss Novette 03-03-2003 03:36 PM

Twinkley - beautiful cats! They look like they are just packed with personality.

:D

sweetums 03-03-2003 04:46 PM
