Is anyone following the 2008 Ryder Cup?
I love events like The Ryder Cup, and The President's Cup. This kind of match play always raises the level of play for these guys and damn they are GOOD.
Check out the site: Ryder Cup 2008 I was fortunate enough to be able to attend last year's President's Cup as it was held literally a 5 minute walk from my house at the Royal Montreal Golf Club. Let me tell you it was incredible to see that many big names in golf up close. As a golfer myself, it really made me think about how I play my game and even the mistakes I make when I'm out there. There are some noticeable absentees from the Ryder Cup. Woods, Singh, and Weir just a few that aren't there this year. Still, there is going to be some amazing golf this weekend. |
You know I'll be watching... all set up and ready for the action.

man... despite a few big names missing this is some excellent golf.

Honestly, I dont follow it...but every picture I see from it, seems as though all the gents are having a great time.

Don't mention the President's cup and the Ryder cup in the same breath please. Nothing compares to the Ryder cup.

You never hear the US players say, "I'm so pumped about the President's cup". Why? Because the players know it's a knock-off. Oh, you'll hear the politically correct bs around President Cup time, but it's nothing but rhetoric. Player's are THRILLED to be picked for the Ryder cup team and it would take a LOT for them to pass on the invitation. If it hasn't happened yet, it will soon that US players will simply pass on the President's cup because it's time better spent elsewhere...like resting on the couch at home watching a replay of the last Ryder cup. |
True, the Ryder Cup has history on its side having started in the 1920s but I'd give the President's Cup its due. I certainly wouldn't assume that someone would pass on playing if he were chosen for the event. I'm not sure why you would think that. It will never be held alongside another big money event.
It's becoming more prestigious every year it is played too. I particularly remember how competitive the 2003 event was in South Africa. It finally ended in a tie and hand-shakes all around. The 2009 tournament (San Francisco) should be awesome with Couples and Norman as team captains. |
