Remember the Iraqi journalist who threw his shoes at George W. Bush?
He got sentenced today to 3 years in prison for "assaulting a foreign leader".

What do you think about this? OK it's "W" and people thought it was funny and all, but my feeling is that (since it's Iraq) he's probably lucky he didn't just disappear forever or even get the death penalty. I mean really. Making a porno in Iraq is punishable by death!

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad comes to the US and no one throws shoes at him. Imagine that.

You had to look his name up just like any of us would have. Therefore you wouldn't even know which direction to throw your shoes if you wanted to thrown them at him! :laughout:

What would be the sentence if you threw a shoe at W in the States? There are a lot of wacky laws concerning threatening the president that give the government carte blanche to screw you.

I think they had a hard time to make a balanced verdict. Alot of Iraqis would not want to see him in jail for what he did. On the other hand, they couldnt just let him off the hook since that would give the impression that anyone could throw shoes at any official state visit and get away with it..

From a "western point of view" I think maybe 3 years was 1-2 years too much. I mean.. GWB did duck and the hostile projectiles did not hit their target. ;-)

Would have been worse if he got them right in the smackeroo. :-)

I'm thinking he probably got off very lucky.
