I lived it long enough to know what you call fetish was not for me. When you see the real deal and the blood splattering and the needle play up close and personal, you might have a better idea. High contrast lighting do not make art. If you want an education in art, perhaps you should study Helmut Newton who is the master of what you are trying to achieve. In our little world of porn, you may stand out. But you and I know the real world.

Vid IS an artist. He's been a photographer WAY before he was in the industry. He has the experience and I've seen his work over many many years and he knows his shit. I always enjoy his pictures. Yes everyone has different taste and opinions, but there should be no doubt of Mike's credentials and talent.

I have been in the photography business longer than anyone on this board and most in this business and I don't consider myself an artist, but I am really fucking good at making a living out of taking pictures.

I have a bachelors of art in creative arts .. An Undergraduate in Television Broadcasting
I have had several gallery showings for my paintings over the 20 years ago Ans have shot for several magazines. LOL

I have my fetish art printed in the top two fet magazines in the world .
I sell my Fetish art in three Montreal Designer stores and am looking at a gallery showing for 2010.. I have 5 prints going to a showing in NYC @ a fet store there.

I had my first showing this past year, with great success .. (for fetish)

Wiktionary defines the noun 'artist' (Singular: artist; Plural: artists) as follows:

1. A person who creates art.
2. A person who creates art as an occupation.
3. A person who is skilled at some activity.

That is the point. As to the rest of it, its creative. Its a type of fetish. But it ain't art. Perhaps you may have somewhere created art in your past, but this little snapshot ain't it.
As for those degrees, they don't create artists. Hell I have worked for the best there is in television, and have all that shit, but I would never consider myself an artist. As for wiktionary definitions, they are whatever the fuck you want them to be.
If you think you have the talent of Helmut Newton, that would be your opinion. And perhaps you do. But not in that picture that you present as art. Its pretty obvious to me.
The "what is art" debate is older than the traffic vs content debate. My brother in law loves black velvet nudes and he thinks they are art.

Art should surprise, delight, and/or reveal something beyond the image portrayed. Visceral reactions don't qualify. Any goof with a camera can do that.

No offense to you or the pictures you take to make a living. Anyone who can actually make a living taking pictures is very lucky. My focus is on this picture.
