Are you wireless?
I finally went out and got myself a wireless router system for my laptop. I figure why should I spend the entire summer working out of my office basement. Now I am nicely set up on my back deck in the fresh air and sunlight. :sunshine:
|
We just set up a wireless network in our condo. When I go in the bedroom the connection keeps dropping, even though it says I have strong signal strength. Now I'm thinking of just running a cable through the wall.

So far so good here... I consistently have a signal strength of "Very Low" but no problems working. We'll see how it lasts.
Barry, are you sure your walls aren't lined with lead? |
We are looking into wireless now! :D
|
Chris, it sounds like you are having fun working in the sun! :flower:

Wireless? Who needs to be wireless when I've got 40' of Cat 5.
|
Actually, I've been looking into becoming wireless also. I haven't decided which laptop and router I want yet. LOL! No big deal though. It's been raining an average of 5 out of every 7 days here. I don't even have a tan yet! LOL!

I bought a Linksys which was a big mistake because my Linksys wired router gives me trouble too. Which brand do you use? B |
Howdy y'all.
Wireless is a fine thing. At the Montreal show we had two complete networks up and running (one in the bar, one in the seminar room), it's all good. My house has a Dlink wireless system, the transmiitter on the 4th floor. I can get service anywhere in the house, and anywhere on the property, although a little weak in the basement and on the deck. I am looking to add a boosting antenna to it to give solid coverage over the entire neighborhood area. :-) Gotta love wireless. Alex |
I use DLink for a home network. I was looking into them for wireless networks also. I've had no problems using DLink on the mini network set-up here. It's good to hear their wireless does well too.

all of the network is wireless. Its great for the laptops!
:D |
Where you really could make an awefull lot of money with would be wireless power supply!
|
I live in a fairly big building and when I search for wireless networks I always see at least 2 or 3 other networks besides my own. In total there are at least 6 or 7 wireless networks within range.
But the fun part was when I found one with no passwords or security enabled. For a few minutes I was surfing the net on another person's connection before I got paranoid and disconnected. I guess the walls really do have ears! B |
LOL! <img src="http://smilies.sofrayt.com/%5E/c0/biglaugh.gif" width="15" height="15">
Sucks having a conscience sometimes... <img src="http://smilies.sofrayt.com/%5E/r/biggrininvert.gif" width="15" height="15"> |
The place I am living nw has wireless, the station is set up in the basement and I am on the second floor. Everyone else has a fine connection. My roomate is hard wired into it. But I'm on a wireless card for my laptop sometimes it's so slow and I get dropped. The downstairs neighbor is surfing and downloading porn. He is bogging me down. Sigh, I need to send him links to my sites so at least maybe I could make some money on my slow connection! Laugh!

We have had wireless for a looooong time now. almost 3 years ....
Buran bought our first wireless router for my birthday 3 years ago, and my parents bought the card :) I have been free and wireless ever since! I love it! One little problem where we are now. Because of the way our house is built, I constantly lose signal in the living room. We are working on building a better anttenae for the station now to boost the signal. Our house is all kinds of weird angles - hahahahah thats why it happens - same reason i cant get a damn cell signal... For what its worth, I do like the wireless - i like being able to get online COMPLETELY SAFELY in the middle of a horrible florida thunderstorm - no power cord, no ethernet cord, no way for lightning to fuck it up! twinkley |

My only suggestions to anyone using wireless is to make sure your security is setup properly. Never accept the defaults.

I've had wireless for almost a year. It's great, b/c I prefer to work from bed! rofl

Hi,
I have been using a Linksys wireless router and a D-link wiress router for over 1 yr. now, no problems at all. Wireless is great for laptops, working on the deck, etc |
Wireless here too, been using it for some time. We might be moving up to our cottage on the lake and if we do, you can bet that the wireless will be there as well so I can sit out on the back deck...now if I can only get wireless to work on the fishing boat...hmmmm.

I'm thinking of taking Raw Alex's advice though, and installing it upstairs because the signal gets weak sometimes when I'm out in the back yard. |
I 'm thinkin of goin wireless at the bar .. that way I can surf when the bar is quiet .. Though I hope it wont happen too often ! ..
I was checking out the NetGear Wireless unit ,, nice and slim ! anyone got any info on this unit? |
Our entire office is wireless, including desktops (Dell has a very easy to use USB wireless adaptor) and Laptop Mac and PC's. We have about 5-6 computers on it typically at one time and very Rarely have any trouble.
In fact, we are so hooked we are installing a wireless network in a local pub we love so that we can go have lunch there and still work! :) |
Yeay! 200th Post! Woohoo!
|
OK ok Im new at this. How much Bling to get started?

Prices ins the US are well below what is being charged here in Switzerland, Derek.
But the Access Point here cost us CHF 250.- (USD 320.-), a WLan-PCMCIA card is CHF 100.- (USD 135.-) and a WLan-PCI card is CHF 120.- (USD 160.-)... But as mentioned above, prices here in Switzerland are way above everyone else.... |
We have been wireless in our office for 2 years now. Works well even on the patio. We have used wireless setup for 4 shows now & sems to work very well.
