Hosting... comments?

Hi all,

I am looking for a new company to host my dedicated server and I've narrowed it down to two so far:
- Oxeo
- XXX Web Hosting

I was hoping somebody on this board has dealt with one of these companies and could offer their experiences.

Also if you know of a hosting company that you highly recommend I've love to hear that too. Requirements are: must do dedicated, must have a FAST network, must sell bulk bandwidth at a good price.

Thanks in advance!
Barry

Of your choices Barry, I'd say go with Oxeo !!

Hi Barry,

I'd like to invite you to check out our operation, SinHost, as well. If you poke around on the boards you'll likely see that we come highly recommended. We specialize in high performance hosting and thorough, personal service. I think you will find my prices to be surprisingly competitive.

I wish you luck with your decision and future hosting! Even if you don't choose SinHost, I'd still be happy to speak with you on ICQ or over the phone to help you make your decision. Fortunately, there are a number of quality hosts that you have to choose from :)

Cheers,

Brad

I host with www.rackspace.com and I've had 100.000% uptime with them for over 3 years now. They garauntee 99.999% uptime, and have 24/7/365 support. They may cost a bit more, but for a real business, it's well worth it. I have never had to deal with downtime, yet, and are always lightning fast. I can get you $500 rebate if you sign up throught me.

I do host some high bandwidth stuff with Oxeo. A few days ago they were offline for at least 50 minutes during prime time for a security patch update. I don't think any security patch was so important that it required almost a downtime of an hour during peak hours. They could have waited until 3am. So, I do not agree with this. I also do not agree with the fact that they told people it was only down for 10-15 minutes, which is not the case. I had people all over the net attempting to connect to it, as well as ICQ logs to prove the downtime. I am not sure how much longer it was down past 50 minutes since I went home to eat after waiting over 30 minutes after speaking with Oxeo which had claimed 'it will be up in a few minutes'. But, besides for that, they have not been down. The downtime was just a bad decision on their part, which notably is not down time due to their network. I've only been with them for a few months.

That's my experience. ICQ me if you'd like to chat.

my sites didn't go down in peak time, they did however go down at 2am (which is hardly peak) for installation of additional routers and even then they weren't down long.

and in the 4 months i've been with them, ive never lagged and never been down. 24/7 tech support as well.

I think the security issue they were solving was pretty important, but I still cannot see that it is so important that they could have waited until at least peak hours were over. I know that Rackspace would never dream of do such a thing, unless requested. But, like I said, besides for this, everything appears to be very cool with them.
