Streaming video question...

Most places doing streaming videos and webcams recommends using a mini-DV camera.

Is the cheapest available model with IEEE1394 output satisfactory for that application ?

Are there models / brands of camera that you could recommend, or others that should be avoided ?

I'm an ignoramus on this one; fill me in...
