Both 13 and 666 were numbers made up by or created by The Church.

666 they made up in the Book of Revelations.

13 is an unlucky number because of Friday the 13th. Ok, which Friday the 13th? ... Why, the one where one of the evil Pope du jour got together with an evil French lord or prince or king or something, and both jealous of the great amounts of money the Knights Templar had -- some suspect the French guy wanted the money and the Templars had proof of the Sang Real Jesus bloodline lineage which the Pope wanted destroyed, but I digress -- viciously slaughtered every Templar they could find on "a" Friday the 13th sometime during the 14th century.
