First you need to decide what type of site you wish to build. (blogs, freesites, galleries, TGP, MGP, link dumps, pic posts, link lists, portals, hubs,...)

Then you need to decide what niche(s) appeal to you.

Then you need to find sponsors who offer content in the niche(s) you wish to promote.

Then you need to find a good host.

Then you need to start building your sites to promote sponsors, make some money, while building up traffic.

Another way to enter into the business is to offer services to webmasters and site owners. If you have skills in programming, sell your skills or become a full time employee.

Visit the resource sites. Read the articles and tutorials. Pick an area and niche(s) that interests you. Learn what you can about the sites and the niche. By choosing something that interests you first, you won't become as frustrated and learning will be easier. Don't choose something just because someone told you you can make a lot of money doing it.

If blogging interests you, start there. If freesites interest you, start there. If portals interest you, start there....

By choosing a niche that interests you, it will be easier for you to sell the niche. You'll have a better understanding of the triggers. It'll be easier to get inside your surfers head and get them to click to your sponsors.
