Default Tips to seem like a larger company

When you go to a website, or get some spam.. is it really coming from a large company, or from someone who had an idea.... here are some tips... even if you just work by yourself from home, you too can be a large company.

1) Always refer to yourself as "we". ie: We currently make 5 galleries a day.

2) Have more than one email address, even if they all go to you. Good ones are admin, support, sales, advertising and webmaster.

3) Likewise, refer to yourself as different departments. ie: Yes, that image can be editted to show that, let me just get it to our designers.

4) Make yourself head of a department, show it in your sigs. It's nice to be the owner, but people question that. If you're head of sales or something, people think you have a boss, and employees under you.

5) Always talk about the big things in the works... even if there aren't any. "Our team is currently working on something.. due to be out soon."

thats what's great about this industry.. you usally don't have to bother. But i remember putting up a list of available possitions in my Web Development company 15 possitions, everyone with atleast 5 years experience and shit even requested a fucking PR Agent lol

Sometimes when people realized they where talking to the owner they went all like 'Oh.. what an honor' ;PPP that was pretty cool

I never really felt the need to be "big" - but I do refer to myself as 'we' - mostly because at times there really IS more than 1 person working on something.

I'm a freelancer who hires other freelancers to lighten the load - imagine that

Hey, remember 1987-89 when Microsoft was working on NT ? It was due "to be out soon" for about two years, IIRC. IBM OS2 was gaining market share over DOS and mini-computer OSes and everybody said that NT would never be able to take over OS2. NT was labelled to be not software but vaporware.

Oops, sorry, just reminescing.

My name is on the letter head but I do have a partner he keeps me going is my best friend and we make a fine team. We do farm things out when the load it to big but I like to think that when someone calls me and wants me to do a design that I will do everything I can to deliver the goods. I won't ever tell someone the programmer can't do that or the designer says it will take time I will tell them what it takes to get it done give them the info they need. I have always felt that if you say let me check with who ever it's like saying the check is in the mail. As a freelancer I used to hate it when little design shops would say the finance department needs to cut your check and I knew the same guy talking to me was the guy cutting the check. I guess because of that I feel a little different about making myself and the company I run any bigger than it is.

Just my opinion.
