Default Things you never want to hear on the phone....

...one of my daughter's leading off with "first of all...she's OK."

Her sister took a *hard* fall on an unmarked and just washed floor at work last night. The manager - violating California State Law, by the way - just made a smart ass remark at her and didn't even help her up. (By law you have to *immediately* fill out a report, give the employee a form and send them to the emergency room and not let the employee back until the doctor gives the OK.)

No report.
No form.
No "sent to the ER."

Her sister took her. Even the nurse at the ER was pissed off.

My favorite line? "Thank god she picked yesterday to wear her hair in a ponytail or it would have cracked her skull when it slammed into the floor."

None of this was in the manual I didn't get when I had kids.

Thank you, Sin. She aches, but they said she didn't damage anything permanently.

Of course, it's taking all of them to sit on her boyfriend to prevent him from doing something...really naughty to her manager.

Robert...we're still working on "OK." Yesterday, her older sister told me she was taking her to the doctor for her ankle, which isn't right. Older sister knows younger sister well enough to know that younger sister will stupidly be a brick about pain when she should be saying "I can't walk on this thing."

This is one of those moments that I wish I wasn't so far away...but everybody is glad that I am.

very sad to hear this story - and your right - it is too bad your not closer dispite what they say that everyone is glad your not around. Truth is that common sense must prevail.

Oh, yes indeed, Robert. I can sit way down here in San Diego County and threaten firebombings and all manner of ugly things while my children sigh and go "oh, Mom" a lot. Luckily, they also inherited the sane, rational part of me that peeks out occasionally and they're using that through this.

I'm very, very proud of the "older sister." She's handling it well. (This is the former high school student who planted a boot in the groin of a stupid asshole who made the mistake of hassling her sister.)
