Question Email Poll

If you could check your email here on xnations using your own POP account (browser based email), would you do it?

Well, I have a chance to implement something, but if the desire for it isn't there I won't bother.
I could even go as far as offering @xnations.com email addresses to everyone. However, I'd need to look at all the security issues surrounding something like this.

But I want to offer more useful stuff to the registered users here.

I'm not interested Chris, all my different email accounts get forwarded to one hosted at protgp.com on which they offer TMDA (tagged mail delivery agent)... basically it's a white list system.... all mail that's not on the local blacklist there will be forwarded to the TMDA system.... if the sender is whitelisted it will be delivered to your inbox.... if not, it will put on hold status and an email is released to the sender who has to reply (or with some modification to click on a link)... once done, they get whitelisted and the email is forwarded to your inbox!

I wouldn't use it largely for security reasons. I wouldn't want my accounts and passwords to sit (or pass through) a third party system.

Personally, I think it is really kewl that you want to do something for the registered members of XNations. I just don't think offering them an email account to access through their own POP3 would be the way to go.

Sure, having an account like "panky@xnations.com" is kewl and works well for name recognition/branding, but you are also opening yourself up to a whole slew of problems. Security and spam for starters. It might be more expensive, and more headaches to keep it clean, then the payoff would be.

Besides, the more popular XNations becomes, which is kewl, the more open XNations will be to hate and jealousy. What's going to happen some day when someone decides they don't like XNations, for whatever reason, and decides to use "user"@xnations.com in some kind of smear campaign? Suppose they decide to majorly spam, intentionally spread viruses and all kinds of destructive stuff, using an email account from XNations.com?

Excellent points Panky... I knew you were a moderator here for a lot of good reasons.

I understand that, NetRodent. I just figured people might want to have a browser based email account on the side so to speak. Like for me, I have a Yahoo account that I use for certain things or when I can't access all my other personal POP accounts.

In any case, looks like this one is a no go. Thanks for all the input on this guys!
