The original story is unavailable now (looks like they exceeded their angelfire bandwidth) but I heard a story that is probably similar. A model from the US got an oriental tattoo on her shoulder that supposedly meant "mysterious". A few weeks later at a photo shoot in Japan, some of the local models were laughing at her. She asked them what they were laughing at, and it turns out the tattoo actually meant "weird". The moral of the story being, don't get a tattoo in a language you don't understand.
