Rank your favorite punk/ indy bands
Looking for your top 5, this thread has a place in my heart because I left law school to go on the road with a punk band, my parents still remind me but my kid thinks it's cool....
My favorite Top 5:
1 The Velvet Underground (u may argue not punk but they started it all)
2 The Ramones
3 The Patti Smith Group (It was Fred Smith who built the stage @ CBGB's
he was married to Patti and in Television
with the great Tom Verlaine4 Nick Cave
5 The Raving Mojos
Special prize if you can name the Mojos lead singer!

Weezer
The Ramones
Nirvana
Stone Temple Pilots
Mudhoney
The Clash
(in honesty, The Clash was my only afterthought but there they are on the list anyway)

I would have listed Pearl Jam as well, but I don't consider them punk.
Hard to say what they are. Just rock I guess. They are my all time favourite.

Do you recall a huge Madison Square Garden show for Dylan? Eddie and Stone got up and did a casual duet that was mind blowing!
I guess they were labelled grunge and came out of that brilliant era with Soundgarden, Nirvana, Hole, etc.
After Cobain died, the Major Labels shifted gears and 'replaced' rock with a safer more socially acceptable and gentle art form.
I think this kids call in Rap but, hell I aint no kid and could be wrong.

I don't recall the show you mention, but I do have the DVD set from MSG which is really good.
I've seen PJ all three times they have come to Montreal. They really put on a great show too.

I'm not into punk... I do like some of the bands mentionned though... Especially TOOL, Stone Temple Pilots, Public Image Limited...
I prefer real hard rock/heavy metal...
Sophie.
