Default Salad Dressing

Since I soon shall labour diligently in the kitchen with assorted vegetables, I thought I'd put up a poll regarding the tastes of the XNationers regarding salad dressings.

Also called: "I'm hellishly bored with what I was doing."

Once, when newly married - which is usually when you do these silly things - I made my husband the world's most expensive bottle of Blue Cheese dressing from a recipe. I spent a fortune, worked my ass off, and presented it so proudly. He was underwhelmed. (He had a similiar reaction to the homemade broccoli soup of which I was so proud...and caused the largest purchase of cream that I personally have ever made.)

I decided I liked bottles and cans.

Try Raspberry Vinagrette...I do a kickass homemade variety..but you can buy it..

Its incredible.

Also if you have kids that hate salad , they will suddenly want to eat it.

Another great trick for getting kids to eat "green" veggies , sprinkle them with lemon juice ( either the kids or the greens lol)..it makes them taste sweet.

I'm going to have to try that with Ryan. He's very fussy.

As for me, here's what I make that FB likes too.
Olive oil, red wine vinegar (I use Pastene), and a tablespoon of dijon mustard. Some Maggi, dill spice, and salt & pepper.

All mixed up in the bottom of the bowl. Throw the greens on top and toss.

I like Caesar. The Bacon Caeser is awesome too.

Also like Peppercorn Ranch, Creamy Italian, some others.

And (damn you Nick for beating me to it) Rasberry Vinegrette.

Californian here, who loves blue cheese dressing.
It took a little getting used to, but my husband just loves it, so I tried it.

My husband also makes a KILLER Caeser salad. He used to be in the restaurant business, and got the recipe from the son of the man who invented the salad in the first place, at the very hotel. That's one of my "it's my birthday/Mother's Day/whatever and I get to pick what I want" favorite dishes. He makes it in a huge restaurant metal bowl that's big enough to bathe a baby in. It's pretty much ruined me for what most restaurants call "Caeser Salad." (Unless somebody rolls a cart to the table and makes it right in front of you, you may safely assume you aren't getting the real deal.)

I'd forgotten all the salad dressings that end with the word "vinegrette" when I made this poll. I have an unopened bottle of Sun Dried Tomato and Basil something-or-other that came from the magic "our stuff has zero calories" online place. (Their veggie dips were great.) I'll have to pull that out and try it, once the collection of opened salad dressing bottles we already have decrease in number.

I wish I could convince my husband that the "expiration date" listed on the bottle is no longer relevant once the bottle is opened. We've had some lively discussions regarding this. (I win, I always win. )

One of the best things about moving was that the refrigerator had to be emptied, of course, before it was moved. That caused a *lot* of stuff to hit the trash bin. Thankfully.

I just wish he'd quit bringing home things from work. Every time they have a caterer in, which is often, he brings home the "leftovers." (OK, the time it was two pounds of cooked shrimp, it was cool.) Occasionally, it is HUGE bottles of salad dressing. He ate Ranch, which he doesn't like, for a very long time as punishment for that little escapade.

I make my own dressing, and I think it is much better for you once your make it yourself....

My recipe:

Olive Oil
Red Wine Vinegar
Pure Honey
Garlic
Oregano

Option: crush up raspberries or strawberries and put in but what is even better is this:

Subsitute oregano and garlic with fresh squeezed grapefruit juice and some crushed ginger.....
