Question Internext fallout

So how was the show?

Talk is that this might actually be the last winter Internext held in Las Vegas.
I'm hearing about poor attendance, compact show floor and almost nobody around.

How were the siminars? I saw there were some impressive people lined up to speak. Did anyone attend them?

I think it would be a shame if this show wasn't held any longer in conjunction with AEE, but maybe smaller shows is the way of the future for the online side of the adult business. I do enjoy Vegas, however. The AVN shows of old were massive and very impressive back in the day. Not to forget the Adultdex and Cybernetexpos that were held in Las Vegas as well.

Well last years show for us was money well wasted.. booth, merch, 8 staff in Vegas, hotel, food etc etc.. and the show was small, the foot traffic to the booths was bare minimum, it was a extremely disappointing show for us. So this year we decided against it. We do very well at smaller shows, we know who is who and what show they are attending and that they are there specifically to do biz, so a captive audience if you will.

I do love Vegas the city mind you. But yes do tell.. how was the show??

Oh my god, you are right about the size and it's not what it used to be, but I still think it was a very good show, well... it was for me. I realize that this show had no mainstream people attending like 3 years ago, so as a booth holder, i found it interesting.

I wasn't there - outside of just having a baby - after last year I wanted to wait another round before trusting Vegas Internext with company month to make it worth while.

What I felt from responses out of the gate are that companies are wanting to see more bang for their buck - and that comes from networking. Vegas doesn't allow much opportunity to network and get work done as much as partying and gambling. Shows such as Phoenix and Florida are designed for doing business and networking. I think you'll find companies are getting smarter and will start using the money spent on Vegas which is extremely high and start visiting smaller shows where they can for the price of one Vegas show now go to 2 maybe 3 other shows and get more work done.

Seminars - well we all know about that - your watching people up on the panel kiss ass to their affiliate program and others up on the platform, not being fair and balanced to the webmaster by giving them all of the options, only the options they want to give which falls in line with their company - and responding to answers given from panels from years past. Only a few do have words of wisdom in them and worth the time.

Face it - seminars are rarely about giving honest - solid informative secrets about how to succeed in the industry. Even the 2257 seminars the lawyers tend to over shoot the mark so that you will seek them out and spend money on them to protect yourself.

AdultChamber.com exhibited and marc came back raving about how busy he was on the show floor, talking to people the entire time at the booth and wrote a ton of business. Says deal making and interest wise - was one of the best vegas shows he's been to since 2000 and had enough time to talk to everyone rather than BS'ing with 'weenie whackers' not even in the biz or dealing with people trying to sell him at his own booth.

wow, that's sad. Back when I first started out 7 years ago they really hopped. There was tons of networking, and meet and greets.. Where has the industry gone? Are there too many smaller shows that are taking over for the bigger shows? dunno.. Just doesn't seem like people are enjoying their work like they once did.

i am gag ordered on this subject. lol.

howver i will say that i told everyone that only the vegas party crowd was going to go to this show. aee was quiet and so was the floor at internext i have from good sources.

the parties i heard were good but everything else was slow from what i'm told.

just info, i was not there on purpose so everyone must have been lying to me if others come in saying that it was the bomb showfloor.

Hey everyone...
Vegas has always been a difficult show for us. We have to work twice as hard as any other show, if not more.
People, events, the show floor are just too spread out.
Too many distractions, such as Casinos and the Vegas Shows.
Too many damn restaurants, stores, etc
I think the HollyWood show, Phoenix Forum, and the smaller shows, definately have more appeal & success in general.
However, we DID do very well at Vegas this year. We just had to work our asses off to get the same amount of business done as some of the other shows.
I do think this will be our last Vegas show, for the same reasons I mentioned above.
The seminars WERE better, but still lacking. No REAL information was given out to help smaller webmasters, no REAL hands on, actual information you could take home and apply.
Having a Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced seminars would be a better idea, with actual information
being given out, and not just beating around the bush, which is usually the case with Seminars.
I think the Phoenix Forum will be trying to do something along these lines. Will be interesting for sure
Sad to see the famous Vegas show get such bad hype, but we are pretty much done with it.
On to new and more exciting shows for sure!
What is everyone else's favorite shows?

I wasn't able to go either which way... however...

after last year, the only reason I would have gone would have been to see friends that I haven't seen since the last convention. And that's it.

If you have your yearly routines where you see old friends and have some great parties and dinners, then by all means... go for what you go for. But if you go in hopes of having an actual convention where you learn stuff and meet new people... don't bother.

I've got mixed reviews of this year's vegas show.

The show floor was small, and trying to catch people on it was hard. I actually talked to more people outside of the floor. At 300 bucks for a show pass, I actually felt it was way too much for 30 booths.

Not everyone stayed at the Mandalay, so I was out and about to other hotels to get to people, since most people walked the whole floor in 10 minutes and went back to their suites.

I saw more people at the Player's Ball than I did anywhere else. I got to have some meals with potential clients, but this year was definately slower than last year.

Maybe we're starting to simply expect more from that show?
I mean, from 2000 to 2005 it really was the dominant show of the year, especially in those early years.

Now the sponsors are slowly moving away from it. Partly due to attendance I'm sure, but also the prices AVN charges continue to rise. Is it possible that the "booth" scenario is generally over for our niche of the business?

Well put Rico..I have always maintained that a show is what you make of it. But fo the cost of booth space and all that comes with it.. we expect a certain level of floor traffic.

We went, and I must say that will be our last Internext show for awhile. We might go just to shoot content with other sites, but no way will I buy a floor passes again. What a waste. For us there isn't any business to be had at that show, period.

I'll add that the show was great for me. Sure the floor was smaller, fewer people, fewer dinners and parties, etc.

But I had a great time, culled many business leads, and it was totally worth my while to be there.

After last years show I told myself that I wouldn't go to internext again, it is no longer the great show it used to be, but then they made it seem like it was going to be soo much different. Well, so I decided to go ahead and go. To me, the floor looked just about identical to last year, the times that I was on the floor there wasn't a lot of people. We get so much more done at shows like the Phoenix Forum, or other smaller venues. We won't be attending any further internext shows, it's just not worth the money spent.

LOL - one has to wonder

though avn had a year to address and step up to the plate to prove that it was a mistake but didn't. No one was given their money back last year, and I suspect those with booths this year are out of luck as well. The show desperately needs some honest dedicated organizers with less manipulation from the top.

I love AVN - and I would love to see it return to the days of ol' - but someone forgot the webmasters in all of this - and only until they walk in and see tumbleweed rolling across the isles will anyone decided - either we shut this down or go back to focusing on webmasters again.

Seems to me , damned if they do, damned if they dont............for me it was an improvement over last year and I did have a good show then as well. They have made quite a number of improvements to acommodate every taste. You cant please everyone.Just because you attend a show ANY show it doesnt mean that business is going to fall into your lap. you have to work for it!

Too many shows and too many Webmasters. The business is changing.

When I was on someone else's payroll I went to all the shows. Now that it's my dime I don't bother.

I use to do The two internext shows and cybernet for the longest time, plus I have gone to a european show, etc. I have missed the last 3 internext shows (two Vegas shows and one Miami show) and I have to say I don't feel that I truly missed much.

Vegas is a horrible place to have a show these days, as everyone has got their little zone worked out, and without a pressing reason to be at the show hotel, most people spread out. Yes, all the people you want to see are in town, but try to hook up.

In this regard, the Miami show is the better of the two AVN shows, as it comes the closest to bringing what the Cybernet show or the Pheonix Forum brings to the table, which is all the people in the same place, with most of the events focused around one area.
