Debbie Does Dallas?
SO question... it's something that just came into my head, but does anyone know why the original 'Debbie Does Dallas' was so fucking popular?! I remember as a kid always hearing references to it & basically that one movie represented the whole porn industry for me as a kid as if that was the only movie.
To this day I still haven't seen it, but I think I may sit down one day and watch it just to see what all the hype was about when I was a kid.
Who has the answers to my burning question?! Fill me in, what made this movie so damn 'legendary'?

"Debbie Does Dallas" was popular because it was born in Babylon but became part of the mainstream!
In those days, porn was still shot on film and was viewed in cinemas. Sound-tracks were scored, more production time was needed and innocence was waning.
These were the days of the infamous Mitchell Brothers in San Francisco. They created Behind the Green Door and were at the nucleus of the creative rock star orgy party that was forming.
An new-aura of groovy-underground-hipness permeated the landscape as the promise of the 60's and 70's radiated an air of permissive liberty.
We were still a non industry. The players were pioneers and "Debbie Does Dallas" was an easy to remember Title and well as the symbol that captured our attention.

it's not that great really ..the acting is crappy and the sex scenes pretty much suck ... however it came at time when porn was at it's heyday. Deep throat had just hit it big, and people needed a new stag film (Miss Lovelace is pretty nasty lookin', imo). An As I recall DDD was the first to depict school kids rather then fully grown adults. And I if also remember correctly back then every kid (including me) had a Dallas cowboys poster in his room ... The Dallas cheerleaders were at the top of they're came, so naturally a porn about them would hit big ..
That's my story and I'm sticking with it .. There is way to large of a time line between green door and DDD

Few of you were around during that time to remember that sex didn't have to be like the hardcore movies we see today and you rarely saw big boobs or heard women speak so openly about sex. Deepthroat etc were movies and books that took the world by storm mostly because women now were expressing their sexuality as much as men - this movie became a cult classic.
Hey, that was the time Rocky Horror Picture show came out - figure that out

Good point Robert, Rocky Horror Picture show, Glam Rock and Punk...all part of the same cultural and media revolution spoke of by the great Marshall McLuhan.
Many art forms came of age around this time as there was less 'speaking down' to the audience.
