Default Life

Life. It's a beautiful thing. It's also way too short. I look back on my own life and notice how fast time has gone by. There are times I remember when I was 17 years old that still seem like yesterday to me and then I glance at today's date and wonder where all that time went.

Meanwhile, I've become a father and see a lot of myself in my 4 year old. I'm doing my best to enjoy every single day of his life because I know he won't be a 4 year old for very long. Then I look away because his smile brings tears to my own eyes. I love him so much and am so grateful he is in my life. More grateful than I ever have been before.

I notice more things around me now than ever before. The sound of birds in trees, the new flowers of spring, the colours of autumn. My mother tells me it's because I'm a little older that I pick up on this stuff. I'm sure she is right. When we're younger, we take so much for granted but that's ok... we're allowed.

Life is short. Life is a beautiful and precious thing. Enjoy every moment of it.

very much agree with you my friend.

Im 46 and whenever I am asked - "would you want to go back?" I would say definitely NOT> I am living the best years of my life now. Wonderful wife, amazing child - beautiful home and great friends in the industry. outside of a few pounds I would love to shed on the tummy - I wake up and get a coffee, look outside and see the country side with horses running and chickens running across the backyard and I smile. Life is beautiful - and if it isnt now? then look at this video

It's so true that after you become a parent your entire perspective changes. Little ones look at each day with excitement. They make getting up and going to work all worth while. It's funny how a day in the park is so much fun with colored chalk and balloons.

Very well put. I may be young, but in my 20 years on this earth I tend to think I've been through alot and thats kinda matured me through the years a little faster then most. I try to take nothing forgrated, and appreciate everything that comes to me. Alot of people think way to negatively abotu things, complaining about the smallest things without ever thinking about the people that are less fortunate.

Just the other day my friend was complaining about how his parents would'nt buy him a G35, how they dont understand him. Like really, get a grip, you alreayd have 2 cars at your disposal anyways and a 20 year old certainly doesnt need a fast car thats going to cost a fortune on insurance! He's lucky he even has a car of his own paid for by them, why not be happy with that? It's alot more then other people have. I find that youth these days want so much but aren't willing to work for it, to go out there and grab what they want. They expect it to fall into there lap and when it doesnt all they do is complain about it. I hope its just there immaturity & that they will soon grow out of it and understand how life works, but sadly i doubt it.

I wake up every morning and appreciate everything around me, never taking anything forgranted... I hope to pass this along to my children one day.

First thing that should be on your face in the morning when you look in the mirror is a smile of appreciation, year up and alive and ready to tackle a new day.
Every day you should go big and love it!

I have lots many friends in the prime of they're lives ... Some even died in my arms. When I sit back and think how I got to where I am .. I am reminded of cross roads that we all reach in life, sometimes we reconize them but most times we don't .. If Only I had done things different would I stil be the same person ... Is the person I've become the wrong one ... Life will always let you ponder at the what ifs .. if you spend too much time on the What ifs you just might miss life all together ...

In the end, I see it this way ... What has happened, happened for a reason. It could not have happened any other way ... Accept it, move forward and always remember ... Things do change whether you want them to or not ...

Life has been good to me for the most part. I've been blessed. Sure I've had my share of aches and pain and still do and I believe that's what makes a person stronger and wiser (If you're bright enough to learn from your mistakes) I see the twinkle of life in my son's eyes and nothing in the world compares to it. I try and do my best to prepare him for this long journey of life, I can only hope that like me, he will be strong, happy, genuine and have a hunger for greatness. Life truly is what you chose to make of it.

very nice post Chris - keep track of your young one, they grow up all too quickly. My son is just over 14 and starting to grow up far too quickly. It really hit me these past few weeks. One of the things that was 'ours' was going to see movies like Harry Potter, Spiderman and Pirates. He saw Spiderman 3 with his girlfriend and I just dropped him off to see Pirates with some buddies... just won't be the same seeing them now that he has already been... We've still got some other things that are 'ours', but one special one is now gone.

This just got sent to me a couple days ago and it really rung true for me...

The Mayonnaise Jar & Coffee

When things in your life seem almost too much to handle;
when 24 hours in a day are not enough;
remember the mayonnaise jar and the 2 cups of coffee...

A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him.

When the class began, he wordlessly picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls.

He then asked the students if the jar was full.
They agreed that it was.

The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar.
He shook the jar lightly.
The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls.

He then asked the students again if the jar was full.
They agreed it was.

The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar.
Of course, the sand filled up everything else.

He asked once more if the jar was full.
The students responded with an unanimous "yes."

The professor then produced two cups of coffee from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar, effectively filling the empty space between the sand.

The students laughed.

"Now," said the professor as the laughter subsided, "I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life. The golf balls are the important things - your family, your children, your health, your friends and your favorite passions - and if everything else was lost and only they remained; your life would still be full.

The pebbles are the other things that matter; like your job, your house and your car.

The sand is everything else - the small stuff."

"If you put the sand into the jar first," he continued, "there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls.

The same goes for life.

If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff, you will never have room for the things that are important to you.

Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness.

Play with your children.
Take time to get medical checkups.
Take your spouse out to dinner.
Play another 18.

There will always be time to clean the house and fix the disposal - I did fix it.

Take care of the golf balls first - the things that really matter.
Set your priorities.
The rest is just sand."

One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the coffee represented.

The professor smiled. "I'm glad you asked."

"It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem; there's always room for a couple of cups of coffee with a friend."
