what do you mean, which is compliant?
and yeah, AVS is a great business model, you don't give away porn, you keep it from the eyes of little ones, and you deal with only adults that own credit cards and are not afraid to use them.
Of course, I recommend AdultLogin, the webmaster friendly AVS, but I also suggest that you submit to all of the AVS's you can think of, no sense in limiting your options

you keep talking about this compliance issue. What exactly are you talking about? serious question. I was unaware that the US regulated AVS's, perhaps you could direct me to what the heck you are talking about.

This thread caught my attention enough to register.
krosh - What do you mean by compliant? Most kids have their parents credit card # memorized, .htaccess is easy to crack, and you don't have to be 18 to get a credit card, but the legal precedent is that by using an AVS you have made a reasonable effort to keep minors out.
What do you mean by are they a good business model? The AVS concept has been profitable for about 7 or 8 years now. Some of the newer AVSes are using unproven methods and that will work itself out. I make my money with AVS and to me there are some creditability issues with using uncensored hardcore pictures in a site tour and then on the join page having a claim that AVS "X" is being used because we're trying to protect minors from porn or using the 'protecting' sales pitch at all on a premium up sell. AVS is a proven business model but weather or not it is a "good" business model depends on your personal ethics.

I keep talking about compliance because as AWolf mentioned, using a CC that is not yours is very easy to do.
A true AVS is supposed to take all information from a person to prove age. The way that is done is through faxing a copy of birth certificate, or a copy of passport, and a copy of a CC matching the persons name.
WIll this model work in the US???
I was trying to stir things up a little here and get peoples input and information. I am very familiar with AVS models. I am just prying for information!!!

OIC AVS in the US is not anything like the German model at all. It is all about filtering surfers that are not afraid to spend money on the internet. In the beginning it was primarily an effort to avoid prosecution by the "credit card wall" concept. Fraudulent practices do occur but the AVS systems are technically acting in good faith. They are not "truly compliant" as far as matching a card with a person, but under US law they are every bit as much a victim as the person the card belongs to and in the case of a minor using a card the AVS is the only victim.

you are kidding, right? just because someone has a PC does not mean they have a fax machine, and I know that I for one have not seen my birth certificate in 20+ years, and do not own a passport, and I sure the hell would not fax you a copy of it even if I did.
Where did you come up with the idea trhat "a true AVS" would go thru all that? I don't need to go thru that much effort to drink in a bar or buy a gun for that matter.

Ok, I'll bite. I stole mom's CC, and her passport. What good would faxing a copy do?
Why not just ask for a personal visit before they get access?

Yeah, the faxing of birth certificates and all sounds like a bit much. Are there any "true avs" that do this?
