New evidence shows how hormones wire the minds of men and women to see the world differently

hell you dont have to be a rocket scientist to knwo that
run a pay site for women and use typical male porn see how many stay

article on the chicgo tribune...

Scientists are still a long way from figuring out what women and men really want, but they are getting a lot closer to understanding what makes their brains so different.

That women and men think differently has little to do with whether they are handed dolls or trucks to play with as infants. ...
The differences, researchers are beginning to discover, appear to have a lot more to do with how powerful hormones wire the female and male brain during early development and later in life.

Among the newest findings: A previously unknown hormone appears to launch puberty's sexual and mental transformation; growth hormone is made in the brain's memory center at rates up to twice as high in females as in males; and the brain's hot button for emotions, the amygdala, is wired to different parts of the brain in women and men.

Scientists hope the findings may help explain such mysteries as why females are often more verbal, more socially empathetic, more nurturing and more susceptible to depression, while males tend to be more aggressive, more outdoorsy, more focused on things than people and more vulnerable to alcohol and drug addiction.

Wow, is that a blanket statement or what? There could be a whole other study about Gays and Lesbians in regards to this. I know a lot of gay men (and even some straight men) who are verbal, nurturing, emotional, etc. and more lesbians who are outdoorsy and aggressive and all that stuff. Not to mention the whole thing about people who are transgendered. Would be really interesting to find out if the path those hormones take are different for each type of person.

I just finished reading a book about the history of our understanding of trans-sexualism and transgenderism in the West as well as the science behind it. So interesting. The huge increase of man made chemicals we dump into the environment or take in through food and pills over the past 50 years has had a huge impact.

Yes, that's an amazing "blanket statement" and one destined to do more harm than whatever good the study may do. It's basically telling a man that if he'd rather collect stamps than rock climb there's "something wrong with him."

I would like to see just one study include every type of human during my life. There have been endless "studies" and whenever I read about one of them I find myself saying "yes, but..."

I'd also like to see the study presented in a way that doesn't doom people by its findings. Women may be "wired" to be more "verbal," but men can learn to be more verbal. (Communication is a "skill" and skills can be learned.) Everything on the list is also a skill that can be learned.

And if one would really like to learn the full meaning of the word "agression," try insulting a child in front of his/her mother...then run like hell, 'cuz Mom's gonna kill ya.

And you know, I've met more than a few guys who were straight, were very soft spoken, loved to cook, and dressed with more style than I could ever hope to have. I agree with Morgan, behaviour is learned. When I was growing up the majority of my friends were girls. So I'm very in tuned with my feminine side. I'm not extremely feminie and I'm not really butch either. I like to think I'm somewhere in between. I have no idea where I'm going with this so I'll stop now. LOL!

Don...I think most people are somewhere in the middle. I have enormous aggression when it comes to my family. (During a difficult pregnancy where the baby and I almost died, a dumb bitch in my husband's office neglected to give him a phone message from me. The next time I saw the dumb bitch, I looked her dead in the eye and cordially said that if she ever did that again, I'd rip out her spleen. I thought she was going to void her bladder on the spot. That is but one of many stories I have that would cause that "men are more aggressive" thing to go right out the window.)

My husband's mother is a woman with a low tolerance for incompetancy, so she taught my husband to cook, do laundry, iron, etc., etc. When he got out of the Navy, he went to work for Holiday Inn, where he did a lot of cooking out of necessity. (Can't close the restaurant if the cook is late, so the Food and Beverge Director has to roll up his sleeves and go to it.)

I had a lot of male friends growing up, and found them to be just as articulate and empathetic as my female friends, if not more so.

I often look at the world now and mutter "what the hell is *wrong* with you people???"

I hate labels.

I think it would be interesting to test this on all types, to see if the wiring is not gender based, but rather, if the way the brain is wired up (how all those hormones affect each person) is directly proportional to those effect - ie, if you like to cook, are nurturing, etc etc isnt gender based, but the way your brain is wired, despite your gender. I also have to wonder how much of this is genetics - ie, how long it took that 1 chromosome to decide X or Y ... and how that affects where the hormones are and how the wiring takes place then over the course of life.

I think this statement hit closer to home than you may realise.

This wouldn't be a separate study, It could theoretically be one and the same.

a "previously undiscovered hormone" that wires brains differently in men and women could be a reason that gay men tend to be more feminine. and vice versa for lesbians.

With information like this, A strong argument could be made that being gay or lesbian could merely be a hormonal imbalance. No one has known why gays are gay etc.... something like this could be the reason and really set back gay and lesbian rights. If, all of a sudden, it gets shown that there is a homone that makes you more of a man or woman ... then being gay is all of a sudden a medical condition... rather than a "who you are" condition.

I'm straight and don't pretend to know why people are gay, but I know a lot of my gay and lesbian friends would be really upset being told all of a sudden it is a medical condition that needs to be fixed rather than supporting their choices.

I understand where you are coming from, but if you look at it the other way, our whole gender is based on a different balances of hormones. I just worry that they will try to give "hormone therapy" to unborn children to try and "fix" them from being gay.

That's exactly my point... all of a sudden it would be something that could be cured with a shot rather than a socially accepted form of uhh... socialness.... I don't know what word i'm looking for
