Doing an Ethics report on the adult industry.. need some opinions
Hey guys so here's the deal... you're all the experts on this stuff and i need some opinions.
I'm doing a report for my ethics class on the changes to the 2257 legislation, specifically how it essentially destroys model privacy in an effort to reduce child porn on the internet.
so my question to you is... what's the line? how far is too far?
are the changes good and effective at protecting against chid porn? or are the privacy rights of models being seriously affected because of it. why does a woman who is clearly a 65 year old wrinkly bag taking her clothes off have to povide her address and real name to countless webmasters she's never met in case she might be underage?
comments and discussion are greatly appreciated.. I like being an ass in my class so let me know what you all think

When I first had "2257 Compliance" explained to me, my stomach hit the floor. All I could picture was a dead model stalked and killed by an obsessed fan or an even more obsessed "do-gooder" trying to stamp out porn.
The law as it effects us does absolutely nothing to stamp out cp. All it does is endanger the models.
No matter how old an individual is, if he/she is old enough to pass to fool an "adult porn photographer" he/she is already too old to entice a pedophile.
It's just another stupid law that does nothing to fix a real problem. We have a lot of those.

The misguided attempt by the feds does very little to actually do what it purports to attempt and certainly lifts the veil of privacy for performers.

I used to spend a lot of time bashing my head against the wall that is Nickatilynx on this subject.
I was SO certain that I - the "ethical one" - was right, and he - the one who enjoys yanking on my chain which is always in reach - was wrong.
Then, at a rather surprising age, I grew up.
He's right. We all sell out our ethics, some more than others of course, but we all sell out.
In this, what must be my 15th incarnation on the adult 'net, I found myself doing things that I NEVER would have considered doing in the beginning. Now, these things are never going to make most of you gasp with shock, but they would have surprised the hell out of the "old Morgan," were she still around to have an opinion.
I still have the ethics I can afford. However....
I leave that "however" as this little monologue's finale.

I do appreciate your wanting to do a paper on ethics - but the fact is that the recent 2257 has nothing to do with ethics as much as control.
Nothing in the changes protect children instead carry on the idea and prejudice label that anyone and everyone in the adult industry has something to do with CP. Very similar to gun laws that require honest citizens to register their firearms the crooks who have illegal guns are simply not going to walk into a police station and 'do the right thing'.
The honest adult companies follow even more strictly the rules of not having any underage content - but these new suggestions are meant to harass - to attempt to frustrate the webmaster into quitting.
To the government we are as drug dealers and pimps - so to deal with us as a business model would give notoriety and admission that we are a legitimate organization. Condoning the adult content companies by admitting that we do follow the regulations and have rights the government would change their strategy from "all porn is bad porn" to the real problem in catching the criminals.
We are as much CP related as a pharmacist is a drug dealer. That is why there is so much fighting going on in court as the government refuses to admit that anything adult is legal. The majority do follow the letter of the law - just don't tell your family and friends who stereotype us all as mafia.
Clearly from the proposed changes we see that the government has no idea what the internet is all about or how it functions. Following through on their terms would tie up resources on both sides for years. If they truly wished to stop CP in its tracks then all they need to do is ask the professionals who are in the industry how to go after those that produce and sell. If given the power the ethical and honest side of the business would have the problem solved within a few years since we have the knowledge and technology to put an end to it.
Recently I offered my years of experience to my local police authority to help track and find such creatures in our city - I was ignored. By not using the resources available to them the government and police are prolonging their cause thereby allowing more CP to be created simply because they choose not to associate themselves with those who truly care and can do something about it. Its more than their loss - its the children's cries as each day goes by without help because of stubborn bureaucracy and unwaivering bitterness to the adult industry as a whole.

If you do not think the real players in the business do not have associates in orgainised crime , you are tripping...
One word "Crescent"
And finally nearly every adult webmaster IS a ciminal...just one that is not prosecuted or convicted yet.
Which of you think that your websites have artistic merit and would not offend the community standards of most small US towns?
Especiall bearing mind that the US's bible belt appears to be anywhere south of the Canadian border LOL
But hey don't let me make you think the adult webmaster world isn't a community lol Though frankly I think its a loose association of crooks , villains , misfits and pervs ..at least 90% do this because they can't do anything else.

Good post Nick.
I used to go round and round with Legacy. I'm the kinder, gentler Anthony.
I would have thought you learned by now, no matter mow many people you tell things too, only a very small percentage listen. Let's see, CONDOM/NETPOND... Those who listened are... Ummm... Me.
Close to it.
Just nod your head, and say "Yes, you're right" to them, and then hit me up on chat to talk about your 3rd watch that is worth over 100k.

I found myself smiling and nodding...at Nick's post. True, all of it.
I also once found myself - with a raised voice, which isn't usual for me with him - addressing my husband with "you don't seem to get what I DO for a living!!!"
I'm a pornographer sitting here happily violating every "community standard" that could be found. (I don't happen to believe that the Constitution gives you the right not to be "offended" in life, but I'd hate to have to prove that in court. Most rap music offends the hell out of me but I'm not trying to shut them down. I just ignore them.)
The only site I have that could be considered having "artistic merit" (It has one of my daughters site designs) looses its "artistic merit" when one gets to the hardcore porn stories contained therein. Well written though they may be...and here I dust my manicure against my lapel...they're still hardcore fuck stories meant for people to masturbate to. (People masturbating don't offend me, as long as they're not doing it in my kitchen.)

THanks guys you're great.
appreciate the help
perhaps i should veer you away from the ethics title... i'm looking at this more of a well this is stupid so what can be done kind of thing... what bears more protection for the more "honest" webmasters? i really like the point about the gun control
so where do we go what do we do? how do you protect the thousands of models and not piss off the people that are outside the industry?

I appreciate that Anthony - I hope that someday you will allow me the privilege of buying you a drink and dinner so that you can get to know me and my wife a bit better and we can learn from the wisdom you have gathered over the years.
