Your first car
I'm curious to know...
What was the first car that you ever bought? Any funny stories about it?
Please post pictures if you have them...
Mine was a 1972 Plymouth Fury III. A huge car with 2 doors and one big sofa in the front and another in the back. AM radio only, but it did have AC.
I bought it in 1985, at a cost of $500 Canadian!
I don't have any pictures of it, but here's something close to what it looked like.
http://mywebpages.comcast.net/Plyfury/FuryIII73.htm
I remember making a 7 hour drive with it.... with NO OIL. As it was my first car, I didn't think to check things like oil levels before going on a long journey. It survived and kept going and going!
It had a 318 engine in it (8 cylinder) and a top speed of around 120 mph.

haha I can picture you driving that thing.
I don't have any pictures of my first car but it was a 1991 Fort Escort GT! Don't forget the GT, lol. It was the red lightning. I bought it for $1000 and after I was done with it, it wasn't worth squat. I used it as a trade in when I bought my new car. You should have seen the look on their faces when I came to drop it off. It had one of those small spare tires on the front. The brakes were squeeling their ass off. When I turned into their lot, the wheel caught against the frame ( because of a wreck I was in) and made this loud thunking sound. The engition was out so you had to start it with a screw driver. I told them they could keep the screw driver, that one was on me! And it was almost out of gas. hahaha
I actually wasn't planning on using it as a trade in, didn't think they would even take it, but they asked and didn't give me a chance to tell them how messed up it was. All they said was, "Does it run?" That's it....SUCKERS!

not really, it looked nice but wasn't rollin on 24" chromes. The momo's were nickel plated, got them for 800 (all 4) from a friend. At the time I was working as a car stereo installer/tint person so I got a 6k system for a little over 3k installed obviously for free by myself and some friends.
Once it was all hooked up I started having probs with it left and right, trannie blew out, 2 clutches in 6 months (yes I KNOW how to drive a stick lol) radiator cracked, countless batteries and alternators. Starter lol, the 3rd time my clutch blew I just said screw it, traded it in for a 95 eagle talon, brand spankin new. 2 weeks after I bought it I hit a deer at 65 mph and totalled the car.
Basically why I dont have a car now. I've had 5 and had HORRID luck with all of them. I almost refuse to buy a car until I can afford to buy a benz or a porsche. I live close enuff to everything not to need a car anyway. Just bought me some phatty 2003 Nike Turbo's

it was a 1984 Cadillac BROUGHAM... big ass SLED. Small block 350, but the thing weighed 20 tons so it was still slow. Enough room in the trunk for two bodies, and ya know what, I'm still driving a Cadillac today. Best American car on the market, made almost entirely right here in the US, but now it's a triple black Eldorado ETC

My first car was a truck...being orginally from Oklahoma!!
Anyways it was a 1987 Red GMC S-15 with running boards with flashy red lights on them I remember going to a sonic where I pulled in all crooked. When I pulled out I ran into the order sign and ended up scratching the bed. I went home and got out the hooker red fingernail polish to fix the scratches!!! HE HE HE My mom and dad never found out.

Chevette? LOL
Well that's not half bad bro... I fully expect to see someone post a picture of a Fiero!
Come to think of it though... Fiero's were kinda cool when they first came out.
Anyone know someone who had a Gremlin or an AMC Pacer?

1969 Chevy Caprice; it was 10 years old and I bought it for a whopping $150 US. It looked like this, except was brown w/black top & interior.
http://images.traderonline.com/img/1...30185368_1.jpg
One night, my friend and I were blasted drunk, and decided that since she was fighting with her boyfriend, and mine was going into the Marines the next day, we were taking a vacation to Florida! It was only a 24-hour drive from Connecticut, after all, and we both had relatives down there. We had $37, a check for $24.50 and the balls that come with the immortality of youth (I was 18, my friend was 17... can you say, "transporting a minor across state lines?").
It was quite an adventure! When we stopped at home to grab some clothes, we inadvertantly took the underwear of everyone in the house, because we just dumped the whole drawer into a bag -- the laundry room was in the cellar, and there was a dresser into which we put all the clean stuff.
We ended up having a 2-week vacation in and around Daytona, but only after running out of gas at a convenience store some 60 miles from where my family lived. The cashier there wouldn't cash our out-of-state check for $24.50 (even after my friend begged, pleaded and tried to convince him that she had a gun in the car -- god, were we nuts or what?); but he was nice enough to give us a ride to my folks' house instead of leaving us stranded in the middle of nowhere. And while we didn't have a gun, we DID have a big butcher knife (two teenaged girls can't travel completely unarmed after all), which my friend had secreted away before we got in the guy's car, just in case he turned out to be a psychopath. The next day, we couldn't find the knife anywhere, and were laughing our asses off imagining what the poor guy must've thought about the two crazy Sicilian chicks he'd been kind enough to help.
Ah, youth...
I ended up selling that car about a year later, when I decided to move back to California. A co-worker gave me $250 for it, so not only was it a fun ride that more than paid for itself in the 2 years I owned it, but it turned a profit, too!
Now my dream ride, that's another story:
http://home.no.net/ayla/Chevrolet/im...t%20Malibu.jpg
I swear I'll have one someday!!!!
edit: WTF, why aren't my image tags working? Everything's set to img ON...
edit2: Ok then, fuck it... IMG hates me, so you'll have to go look at the pix from the links!

Rox,
That's a hell of a story... typical of an 18 and a 17 year old!
Good to hear you turned a profit on that car...
My old Fury eventually went to the junk yard and quite possibly they shipped the scrap metal to Japan. So there's probably a little Miata or Civic bombing around with some of my Plymouth in it!

I built my first car, a 1959 Chevrolet Impala. My dad's uncle had sold it to the original owners, they were 70 at the time.
They had been in a very minor fender bender, but since there were no bumper guards it crushed the bumper into the grill, the grill into the radiator, the radiator into the fan, which naturally took out the water pump.
The original owners were going to sell it to their grandson for towing charges of $50, but I guess he figured he could get them to just give it to him for free. Instead they went back to the guy that sold it to them (my uncle) and asked him if he knew a kid that would buy it for $50.
So, after I got it home, I started searching for another 1959 Impala or Belair, running or not, as long as it had a clean front end.
Found a non-running Belair, with a perfect front end for $25. Swapped them, sold the Belair to a wrecking yard for $50.
So, I ended up with a really clean 1959 Impala, with a perfect interior, 348 V8 with 59,000 miles on it for a total investment of $65.
Sold it a year later for $150.
Guess I am showing my age with this introductory post.

hah, my old friend that got me into American Motors vehicles, did so with his 1971 Gremlin, complete with a balanced and blue printed 390 V-8, 391 rear end with a shift command auto-trans.
I used to love driving that thing, racing against 454 vettes and beating them!
I built a 1964 (as I recall) Rambler Classic with a 343 from a 1969 Javelin. Another sleeper that I took particular joy in racing against lowriders out in the Valley on Friday nights. Paid for that car and then some with money I made racing those guys.
