N.Y. Blackout is pretty wild
They just had it on the tv news here, all the people walking home from the subway and stuff.. looked like a whole lot of people with a loong way home
Any hosts hit by this, or isn't N.Y the place for webhosting ?

some hosts were hit by it, including some universities and stuff (you think they could get better redundant systems with $30k+/yr tuition). but most good hosting companies have their datacenters with multiple redundant systems, and can generally run for several days without power (generally indefinitely as long as the fuel flows). so the big boys aren't really affected much, although i have had a few problems with network traffic getting through, so some of the routing systems and stuff may be hosed.

traffic and blackout
We noticed a large drop around 4:30pm yesterday.
Seeing the people walking home from manhattan over the bridges on CNN is more intresting than porn I guess.. heh

well... they only listed the big cities, but I know that here in Ohio the outages went as far south as Akron, as far west as toledo and pretty far east, but a lot of those in the east were back up by the evening. So there were quite a few people without power.

Hey everyone,
Spread4u is based in Toronto, and I didn't get my power back until this afternoon.
I spent the entire night by candlelight, not very romantic when you do this alone!!!
Most of Ontario was affected by the power outage, and they are still advising us that we could be without power again.
I hope not.
Take care
