Default Visa's problems in meatspace businesses

I met a guy today running a renowned luxury items shop.

I bought stuff, whipped out my Visa card and then he tells me that he's had trouble with Visa, fraud commited on him seven years ago by a third party, wanted to charge back and they never agreed to do the chargeback.

He said they fucked him for a several grands.

So he does not do business with them anymore. Fuck them he said. He said he had same thing happens with Mastercard twice, each time for several thousand dollars, and they accepted the chargeback without any problems. This guy is a well established very high end shop, so he's rather credible.

He's been doing without Visa for seven years and living very well.

Apparently, not only in e-space is Visa playing hardball...

Visa sucks ass. We never had visa as a processor and were doing better than some programs that had it as an option.

I'm starting to wonder if it's even worth the damn trouble to have visa. We had 4 chargebacks in September and all were very questionable. The first one was issued 4 full months after the original charge went through. The second was for a guy that joined, rebilled twice and cancelled through the regular channels. Then 2 months after the 2nd rebill visa charges back the original join PLUS the 2 rebills and we get THREE damn chargebacks from the same guy. What a load of shit!

So it seems the problems with Visa are the exact opposite in online/offline situations. Offline they don't give chargebacks when they should and online they give chargebacks for any and every bullshit reason a crooked turd of a subscriber can think of.

Visa pissed me off recently when they refused to replace my lost card because my account was maxed. WTF does replacing my lost card have to do with my current balance? Anyway they wouldn't do it no matter how much I screamed and yelled.

As a result of their poor customer service I was forced to penalize Visa by not using my card for the next few months. It ought to cost them a few hundred dollars in lost fees. I'm sure they won't notice it but it makes me feel a whole lot better. I paid my bill of course but I haven't asked Visa for a replacement card since, and I don't miss it.

Do keep a record of when a member logs in? We noticed that the vast majority of our chargebacks come from people who took a trial, but never logged in after the trial. They'd get rebilled for a few months and then charge them all back at once.

If you really want to avoid chargebacks, don't bill people who aren't actively using your sites. Of course the decrease in chargebacks probably wouldn't offset the decrease in revenue.

I'm sorry, I just had to comment on the fact that you used the term "meatspace". LOL! I heard that on TV for the first time the other day and I thought it was the funniest term. LOL!

This term has been in common usage since '95, IIRC...

Just like the list of standard acronyms, like IIRC, FYI, IMHO, AFAIK, etc has been.

It seems that since the days of the web, a lot of the old internet culture was forgotten.
