I'm surprised nobody has mentioned design of the gallery when it comes to having a listing on the Hun. It's very important from my experience.
Also, I would think that you have to be promoting the right thing. When
College Fuck Fest was first launched, we bought up a lot of spots on the Hun and did extremely well in signups. We even held a gallery design contest and gave away 10 prominent Hun listings to the winners who designed the best galleries.
That being said, I'd make sure to be have a well designed gallery promoting either a fresh new site, a
4FreeBucks type of site, or a site which offers a free join, like
WEG Cash.
