What do you use your PC for?
Are you a power user? Do you need the latest and greatest PC? I used to be a big timer game freak, till I got a job in the video game industry. Worked in it for 2 and a half years, and now, I don't play anything. I just installed Command and Conquer to try it out, it's ok. But I don't have any other games on this system.
My PC basically is an expensive MP3 player with internet capability now. I do use Photoshop on it, but I rather do it in the office cause my monitor at home is a 15" monitor.
Still want a new one though!

i got it almost 2 years ago (!) and it's a P4 1.6 GHZ, 512 RAM, with dual 19" ViewSonic Graphics monitors... LOL
PCs are like cars, it's an ego thing i guess... *shrug*

I'm a junkie. I played a lot of games at one point. Quakes, Wolfenstein, Sims, Diablo's, pretty much any RPG where I got to blow things up and kill things. The exception being the Sims. I have a stressful career and being able to come home and blow some alien up on the puter relieved a lot of stress. I don't play games much anymore. I'll get hooked again and then not get anything done.
I'll admit that I spend a lot of money on techie stuff. I luv it. I spend money on shoes, clothes, and all that, but given the option to buy a pair of shoes vs. some software, script, processor, gadget... , the techie stuff wins. Puters and techie things are taking over my shoe fetish. Hell, I just got done swapping video cards so that I could run that 3DNA desktop program.
I use the puter for work. My puter looks nice, runs fast, loaded with tools that I use to continue to make money online. My puter is a tool, not a toy. I admit I have the case with the window and the colored lights, the flatscreen monitor, and the ergo keyboard, but the software and hardware inside is all about business.

You didn't just spam me with a MAC did you?!?!? god damn! hehehe I just don't really like MAC. I've used them, and it's not what I'd buy as my main computer. I have throught of getting a G4 with DV if I ever got myself a digital video cam, just to mess around with video editing, but then again, I could get a great PC with a Matrox video editing card and do better.
I do still LIKE to have the option to play games, even though I don't. I have a stack of games that I got and never installed yet!

Good use, but I find it only works in very shallow water and the fact that the power cord unplugs easily makes it hard to bring the anchor back up.

I bought my computer before I had a clue that I'd be getting into the industry, so it's a bit of a dog - just ordered a 2nd hard drive for this puppy. I've been looking at new ones - both premade and kits. That means that I'll end up buying a new one before the end of the year, and I can assure you it will have a little more "umph" than this one.

Yeah I think our PCs are never as powerful as we want them to be. I finally have a system that boots under 30 seconds, probably around 20-25 seconds, and now I find THAT takes too long! :P

My machine rates as "that outdated piece of junk" I think. I'm the proud owner of a Duron 750mhz processor, coupled to a relatively new KTI motherboard, and a relatively new GF2 videocard. It's got a 5 year old SB128PCI in it (I think), and some other assorted goodies. My best piece of equipment? An 8 speed CD-ROM drive.
Then again, I do most of my perl coding on this thing, so it works just fine - runs Linux like a charm. Even runs a bunch of new games fine
My 'test bed' server is a P166 - there's a lot you can do with "obsolete" hardware.

God damn! Sounds liek what I had not too long ago! I have a Duron 1.33 but I had a 750 before that. Just upgraded the CPU. GF3 Ti 500 (got for free) and some stuff in it. I have a P-166 next to me, pretty much in pieces now. And I also have a HP Server with a Pentium Pro 200 in it!

There are 2 computers in our home office and we are lookign to get a 3rd plus a notebook.
The first is used as our entertainment computer. We have a bunch of sound mixing technology as well as an extensive collection of MP3's here. It also works online and provides an excellent back up machine to the main one.
The second is a hig end graphics and video machine. While I end up using it mostly to work from home evenings and weekends, I also use it to edit home pics and video. My goal is a home digital film and sound studio!!!

We have two wireless networks.. one is DSL (for gaming) and the other cable (for the radio station www.dainbramage.com ).
I do most of my work on my new laptop.. 1.7GHz with nVidia GForce 4 video card (so I can game on it).. I wish I had bought my laptop first b/c I would've gotten a better monitor and a larger hard drive. I didn't b/c about two months before I got the laptop I bought a new desktop 2.4GHz with the same video card and really planned to use it more, but the laptop is just sooooo convenient....
We have altogether 5 laptops and around 6 desktops and two servers (one is new and not live yet)....
It's pretty funny on some nights, the three of us (my b/f, my daughter, and me) are sitting here watching TV and each of us surfing with our laptops... talk about family bonding
