Don't rest your wrist at all. Let you hand and arm just hover over the mouse
and your wrist will get better. It will feel awkward at first, but after you will
get accustomed to it, you will never rest on your wrist again.

If it's difficult at first, use your mouse near the edge of the desk so
that you can't rest it.

No pressure, no pain, the wrist will heal but by that time you won't be a
wrist rester.

I could never use those wrist rest pads. It just doesn't feel comfortable to me at all. I used to hold onto my mouse tight too for some reason. Most times, I never realized I was doing that. Once I learned to relax my hand, any soreness went away. I have my mouse at the edge of my desk too and pretty much rest my wrist on the edge of the desk. It seems to work for me because I seldom get any soreness in my wrist.
