Sweetie...even when you were the right age to be a twink, all I can picture is a bunch of older gay men muttering "Oh for fuck's sake, give him whatever he wants or we're gonna DIE!"
Everybody puts on weight as they get older, unless they're the obsessed Hollywood types who starve themselves and work out constantly. It's something that just happens. Your did something wonderful for your health...and for your longevity. You're raising a very smart daughter who wants to keep her Dad around all her life. Massive kudos to you on that one, my man.
I so far have just done little things. Took the creamer out of my coffee, which cut down on my daily caloric intake like crazy. Got a little dog who has to be taken out multiple times a day, which forces me to walk some. Got a TENS unit for my back, which actually allows me to walk some. (Although in the height of irony, the walking has totally trashed the *rest* of my body, which has not been able to move about this much in years.) The new home has a dishwasher, so I'm determined to use every dish I have as often as possible, and now start every dinner with a big, healthy salad. I get everything "fat free" now: skim milk, fat free yogurt, fat free sour cream, etc., etc. It all adds up. (Or minuses up, as it were.)

Very nice, you are getting on the right track for sure! Funny enough, I got my sister a dog, it has made her more active.

It definitely does. Things you won't do for yourself, you *have* to do for your pet.
I was supposed to go outside for half an hour each day to get sunshine. White light treatment for the pain. Yeah, right, like I was going to drop what I was doing and go outside when I could just sit here and bull through the pain. Well, the little dog is rather adamant about going out. She requires supervision, company, and has to smell every square inch of the yard. So...I'm out in the sunshine moving around.
Dogs also require physical activity to stay healthy. So...Dingo and I play "fetch." I throw the toy, she chases it, beats the heck out of it, runs around the house like crazy...then drops the thing and smiles at me. Mommy sighs and obediently goes and fetches it to throw it again. (That's not exactly the game I had in mind when I started this, but the darned dog's got me moving around again.)
I think she's got my doctor on speed dial.

I've done it twice already... third time might be the charm lol
Due to family illness, it's not really an option though.
