There are some really great bands mentioned here... Here are my picks:

60's - Beatles, hands down

70's - Ramones, Queen

80's - Pixies, Sonic Youth, the Cars - I could go on... class of '86 LOL

90's - Nirvana, Pavement, Sonic Youth

00's - I have no clue what the kids listen to these days.

Ummm ... that is where you are very wrong ... As an FM Radio DJ , I can tell you, that as far as vintage classic rock goes, Queen was prolly one of the most influential bands of the 70's and 80's !!!

Did you know "THE GAME" is #4 on the Billboard ALL-TIME RECORD SALES chart ???

Now guess the top 3 ... and I will make this easier for some, harder for others ... Led Zeppelin IV is number 8

=)

Let me guess... top three album sales of all time...

Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon (has to be one of them)
Beatles - Sgt Peppers
and uh....

Led Zeppelin II

As for Rush, yup, excellent drummer. But a different style. Also, did you know that a lot of rush's studio work is multi-layered? i.e. they play over themselves making it seems like they're really, really good... Its not why they did it, but thats why a lot of people think they're so talented.

here, Smashing Pumpkins live:

http://www.drguile.com/perso/sp_geekusa.mp3

such precision work at such a high speed...

but of course, this is just personal opinion... its not an official ranking ;p

Two of those albums are in the top 10 ... but none of them are in the top 3

Paul, I tried to find a link at Billboard, and failed, but I did find this - not sure why the discrepancy, who the hell is doing the counting? Someone appears to be on crack at one of those places

I am a huge Smashing Pumpkins fan. The only time I got to see them live, though, was when they had the drummer from Filter. He kicked ass. I never thought anyone could truly do Chamberlain justice, and I was a little apprehensive at the whole idea of nit seeing the band complete, but I was not let down. All this coming from a true fan of Chamberlain.

Now, I'm gonna put Siamese Dream in... the g/f is not here right now so it can be LOUD.

There are some pretty good choices here mangs.

here's my opinions:

60s ... uh hands down without a doubt the #1 band of all time THE BEATLES!!!

70s ... tuff one, toss up between Led and Pink. pink had the best album i.m.e.s.h.o. in The Wall but Led has many good albums.

80s ... mang, another tuff one for me. #1 i'll just say Talking Heads and not think about it anymore...Def Lepard too damn many....

90s ... wow.nobody really jumping out at me for the #1 spot... I'll say Beck.

Now ... Creed, Puddle of Mudd,

I was going to say Nirvana for the 90s as I am a huge Nirvana fan, but they just didn't have the longevity IMO.
Certainly they changed the pace of music in the late 80s and had a great impact on 90s alternative music. I just wish Cobain hadn't done himself in. There was a lot of music left to make by those guys.

However I was happy to see Dave Grohl start his own band. The Foo Fighters have a new CD out.... gotta get me a copy.

Nirvana also has a new one coming out this Tuesday. Old unreleased stuff from what I read. I'll probably grab that one too.
