brain teasers...
Anyone have any good brain teasers?
I only ask because I was watching some dumb comedy, the guy was interviewing an android and in the interview he said..
"absolutely everything I say is a lie... infact, I'm lying right now"
The android overloaded and shut down.
Anyone got any of these? I love lines that make ya think!

Try this...
Three friends check into a motel for the night and the clerk tells them the bill is $30, payable in advance.
So, they each pay the clerk $10 and go to their room.
A few minutes later, the clerk realizes he has made an error and overcharged the trio by $5. He asks the bellhop to return $5 to the 3 friends who had just checked in.
The bellhop sees this as an opportunity to make $2 as he reasons that the three friends would have a tough time dividing $5 evenly among them; so he decides to tell them that the clerk made a mistake of only $3, giving a dollar back to each of the friends.
He pockets the leftover $2 and goes home for the day! Now, each of the three friends gets a dollar back, thus they each paid $9 for the room which is a total of $27 for the night. We know the bellhop pocketed $2 and adding that to the $27, you get $29, not $30 which was originally spent. Where did the other dollar go????

Hehehehehe--that's my favorite Evil!! And, since I know it, I'll let it ride for the others...
Okay, here's another one for ya.
You and I are shooting models. You look at me and say "Hey, why don't you give me one of your models, and then I can have twice as many as you do." I say, "No, why don't you give me one of YOUR models, and we can be even."
How many models does each of us have? )
It only works with 2 numbers...and as a hint, the numbers are lower than 10.
Huggs!

Chris,
that's easy... you just had it the wrong way around. The trio paid $ 27.- when the room rental was only $25.- .... the two dollar difference is kept by the bellhop.
You must not add the bellhop $ 2.- but reduce it. Simple matter of maths!

Let's start with equations:
1.) "Hey, why don't you give me one of your models, and then I can have twice as many as you do."
x+1 = 2 (y-1) ==> (x+1) / 2 = y-1 ==> (x+1)/2 + 1 = y
2.)"No, why don't you give me one of YOUR models, and we can be even."
x-1 = x+1 ==> x-2 = y
3.) Put them in relation:
(x+1)/2 + 1 = x-2 ==> (x+1)/2 = x-3 ==> x+1 = 2x -6 ==> x = 7
4.) Finding out value for y by using equation (2)
7-1 = y+1 ==> y = 5

Well, the answer is 5 and 7.... that will be "4" & "8" (double) [suggestion 1] and "6" & "6" (equal) [suggestion 2]

Is there any other manner to solve that problem short of trying every pair of numbers between 0 and 9 that are separated by a difference of 2 ?
You're lucky you specified that the answers lies below 10 ...

A man comes to a fork in the road. One path leads to eternal damnation the other to heaven but neither are marked. There are 2 men standing there as well. One always tells the truth and the other always lies. You do not know which man is which. You may only ask one question and pose it to only one of the 2 men. What question must you ask to ensure you choose the road to heaven?

The question is: Which is the way to heaven?
If he tells the truth, he will direct him the right way and if he lies, he will direct him the right way anyway.

An explorer was captured by a tribe whome chief decided that the_
man should die._ The chief was a very logical man and gave the_
explorer a choice._ The explorer was to make a single statement._
If it was true, he would be thrown over a high cliff._ If it was_
false, he would be eaten by lions. What statement did the clever_
explorer make that forced the chief to let him go?

Zoe...
That would be zero... because in your sequence you would have (x-x) and that would be zero so anything times it would also be zero...

Ok... take 18 toothpicks and arrange them in the following pattern... (6 toothpicks per 'box' with one 'crossing' the other one in the middle)... Now take away NINE toothpicks and have TEN left... ;^Ð

A man has 3 basketball sized bundles and must cross a mile long bridge
that is extremely unstable in order to get home. He can only carry one
bundle at a time as any more weight than that and the bridge would
surely collapse...
How can he cross the bridge with all three bundles in only one trip?

Jenny...
Answer to yours is, "The man said, 'I will be feed to the lions'... That causes paradox so the cheif let him go..." ;^Ð

Wrong
You don't know if they are telling the truth or not. So in your case if you ask is this the way to heaven, the truth teller would say yes and the liar would say no if it were in fact the road to heaven. And, the truth teller would say no if it were the road to hell and the liar would say yes if it were in fact the road to hell. The problem is, you don't know which is the truth teller and which is the liar. Keep trying.

It's easy... you ask what the other would say what is the way to heaven and then take the other way!
1. Asking the truth teller:
--> The truth teller knows that the other one would lie and tell you to take the way to hell. Use the other way and you end up in heaven!
2. Asking the liar:
--> If you ask the liar what the truth teller would tell he will also tell you the way to hell. So take again the other path and you're all set...
===> Of course, you can also ask them what way leads to hell. Hell sounds somehow more entertaining the heaven, just make sure you know where you wanna go!

you have to ask one of them what the other one would say.
If he lies, he knows the other guy would tell the truth, so he'd say the other path.
If he tells the truth, he'd know the other would lie, so he'd tell you the other path.
Which ever path either one says.... it's wrong, take the other path.

Damn, I must read all the way to the end before replying... ok, here's a new one for you...
My grandson is about as many days as my son is weeks, and my grandson is as many months as I am in years. My grandson, my son and I together are 160 years. Can you tell me my age in years?

Stuart:
1) My grandson is about as many days as my son is weeks.
This means the son is 7 times older than the grandson
2) And my grandson is as many months as I am in years.
This means I am 12 times older than my grandson
3) My grandson, my son and I together are 160 years.
This means Y(gs) + Y(s) + Y(I) = 160
As stated above, I reduce all years calculated for my grandson ==>
1xY(gs) + 7xY(gs) + 12xY(gs) = 160
20xY(gs) = 160
Y(gs) = 8 ==> Grandson is 8 years old
Y(s) = 56 ==> Son is 56 years old
Y(I) = 96 ==> I am 96 years old

Well, since you didnt define "x" as some number, you will eventially come to (x-x) which is 0, which makes anything times 0 0 :-D

That one's easy... actually this thread helped me: http://www.xnations.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=2166
Tha guy just has to loose the same amount of weight as the 2 of the bundles is by doing some workout and watching what he's eating...
Not the solution you look for but it's well within the question's borders!

LOL, that is original... however, no; not answer I was looking for...
The correct answer was: He juggles the bundles.
