I watch movies during the day in my home office if only for background noise. I recently watched the original Battlestar Galactica, and for father's day I got - Don't laugh - Buck Rogers.
Jesus, late 1870s / early 1980s SciFi was fucking horrible.

Yeah most of it was. Star Wars was WAY ahead of it's time in terms of special effects, editing etc...
There were a lot of Star Wars type clone movies that came out (copy cat movies) that never even made it to VHS they were so bad.
Yeah.. I love Star Trek: The Next Generation for example but when I look back now on that first season.. man was it bad. But back then Sci-Fi nuts were starved for Sci-Fi tv so ya gobbled up what you could get and it got MUCH better as it went on.

One of my favorite Sci-Fi shows from that era was Space:1999. The first season was pretty slow moving, but the second season was good. What was really cool about the show were its Special FX. Great looking, detailed models, cool explosions, great sound, etc - all before computers, motion control and of course, CG.
I'm hoping that this will be one of the next oldies turned into a movie.
