pot for medicinal purposes.... so to say pot is good right? .. illegal
alchohol.. legal?
who gets high, gets into their car and kills people?
I think they have got this all wrong.. yet they make so much money that who cares right?
if they made pot legal, people would grow it and there would be no more "trouble making teenagers" hahah to turn into criminals..
in other words, they cant control it- so it will remain illegal...

niether pot nor alcohol is dangerous when used in moderation ,

but I do think that alcohol is far deadlier when abused, than pot..

I smoke pot most days. I can fucntion , drive and remember most of the day, and I stay calm cool and collected..

alcohol makes me stupid and aggressive.. I have been drunk and stupid more times than I can remember and I dont even really drink,.. yet I smoke pot almost 24/7 and havent had a run in with the law or done anything stupid, I can drive no problem , but a few beers is a differnent story

from earlier memories. everytime I did drink , I had alot of explainin to do in the morning .. or cops are involved.. I stay away from alcohol .. it is the devil .

They don’t legalize pot because they can't tax it! They are talking about decriminalizing pot in Canada, which would be a great thing! It still won't be legal but rather than getting a criminal record you just get a fine, like a parking ticket. If you get caught with over 30 grams it will be a criminal offence… that’s over an ounce! Damn if you carry over an ounce on you, you either need treatment or better pot!

Pot is far different than alcohol, it’s a completely different reaction, no one smokes pot and then tries to act tough and start a fight (unless it’s over the last bit of munchies in house:-) But both pot and alcohol affect the way you drive, you are not paying 100% attention and you have a slower reaction time. I’m not preaching because I’m guilty of smoking and driving, the way I see it who am I going to kill driving at 10 miles an hour:-)

A friend of mine was stopped in the Portland Airport with weed and was let go with a fine, apparently certain states don't prosecute small possession of weed.

California. Alaska, Arizona, Nevada, Oregon, Washington state, DC, Colorado, and Maine have all passed laws bringing them closer to a viable medical marijuana solution, despite much opposition.

The ways that the responsibility for regulating things in the States are structured is fundamentally different than the Canadian system. The individual states make a much higher percentage of the laws than the provinces do here. In Canada all criminal law is basically part of the federal government's responsibility. The provinces have the responsibility for various other things and the cities/counties, etc. have very little responsibility for anything other than traffic and zoning laws. I believe that in the US it boils down to the Feds saying which drugs are illegal, the states setting the penalties, and individual jurisdictions decide whether or not to enforce them. Unless the so called crime takes place in more than one state, in which case it falls under federal jurisdiction. But I could be wrong. Hehe.

Canada has laws that say it's legal for someone to possess less than 30 grams for medicinal purposes. But of course it's complicated by the fact that there is still no way to legally supply to those people. There have been several cases where the government declined to prosecute the "compassion" clubs which provide a lot of it, but it still isn't legal to sell any amount to anybody. And it isn't legal for you to grow your own either. I suppose things will work themselves out eventually.

Nope. Pretty much got it correct. Welcum to US Law and Gov't. All depends where, how many criminal acts involved, priors, who has the best lawyers, and who is bed fellows with who.

I think either is better legal than illegal because it is regulated in some way, so that you know what you are getting when you buy it at a store.

I think pot is worse for the person smoking it than alcohol in large amounts because it fries your brain. I have many friends I could show you for proof of this. And it doesn't take too many years to accomplish this. I've been drinking for longer, and I have no problems, yet. My liver may be shot in another 20 if I continue, but that's about it.

I agree that drinks of alcohol cna make you do stupid things, whereas pot can't, but I lived on a floor of potheads before for a year or two, and I'd rather be stupid for one night than be stupid 24/7.

Also, it is much much easier to smoke a lot of pot every day, several times a day, than it is to do the same with alcohol, so you cannot compare them directly. There are a lot more people who do pot on a daily basis (even multiple times a day) than people who do the same with alcohol.

I think either in moderation is fine, though. It's just that pot heads are such fucking losers and are never going to go anywhere that I refuse to become associated as a part of that group, besides the fact that I personally like the buzz of alcohol better. On the other hand, I know many people who some would consider alcoholics that are going places in life. Drinking like a fish on the weekends and having a normal life during the week is nothing like being a burn out 7 days a week.

This is just how I see it. I feel bad for the people who believe that pot doesn't effect them, I see too many of my friends that are too fucked up for life over it, which means they are never going to do anything with themselves.

Anything in excess can fry your brain. Ever seen a true alcoholic? The ones that have to have alcohol with them everywhere, red nosed, watery eyed and breathe so strong you cant get within 10 feet of them? They make no sense, their brain AND Liver and fried. They cant get through the next hour, much less day without alcohol. Its horrible. It doesnt have to take years to get fried on anything - if you over-do anything - its bad for you.


You are right - its hard to compare alcohol and poit though - because they are 2 completely different substances. The end result of ABUSING anything is the same tho.

AGREED! my only reason for relating the two is that I find it incredibly ridiculous that one is legal and the other is not ... simply because I have lost a dear friend to a drunk driver, seen alcohol absolutely destroy a good life, .... and I went to jail for simple possession (a bowl pack of weed when i was 17) and I just dont get it- then when I think about it, I DO get it and it makes me angry..

Lucky you were 17 and not 18 where you are considered an adult and it stays on your record. Pot should be decriminalized not necessarily legalized, that way there is still some control. If they had specific places that you could buy pot (similar to the café’s in Amsterdam) and made it illegal to buy off street dealers, the gov’t could control it and tax it.
I’m not 100% on the laws in Amsterdam but I believe buying on the street in not legal but in a café it is, am I correct?
