Default Iraq's last chance?

I watched the Presidential press conference tonight, as most of you probably did if you were watching television tonight in North American anyways. It was on basically every channel.

So will the USA commence an invasion and forced disarming of the Iraqi government and military? Will it actually replace the current regime? What are your thoughts on this potential conflict?

I personally feel that Pres. Bush really wants to do this. He looks as though he's had it up to here with Iraq and is prepared to go in.

we're going in, now doubt about that, and I'm sure when we do we're going in strong. You're right EC, George W. looks as though he'd like
5 minutes alone with ol'Saddam in a no holds barred steel cage match.

My concern, or one of them, is that Saddam will attempt, as we know he's capable of, to use weapons of the biological/chemical nature and end up causing an enormous loss of life, both military and civilian.

I'm not worried about winning the war. The U.S. wouldn't face a significant challenge facing the armed might of the combined forces of all the Arab/Islamic countries.

I'm worried about winning the peace. That will be the true challenge.

There's no doubt that forcibly disarming Iraq is going to have to be done. And doing this will certainly mean a cost in human life (both Western & Iraqi). My hope is that the free (western) world will be able to accept these losses and understand the reasons why.

Please make no mistake about this. I agree that they need to disarm Iraq AND get Saddam the hell out of there. They can use whatever excuse they want, but it DOES need to be done.

I only quoted part of what you said Chris, because that's what I'm responding to.

It's very easy to say what I've quoted, but it's quite different if you actually have someone over there fighting. Maybe you do and could accept and understand the reasoning. I would applaud you and anyone with family over there who could accept and understand why their family member was killed.

Alot of people can't and won't accept it. I can appreciate that as well.

Honestly, if it was my kids, I don't know if I could.

Last time I checked the armed forces was voluntary.

We are going in on Thursday. Can't wait for the fireworks.

George wants to go in and fix what his Dad screwed up the first time. Yes, disarming needs to be done. We just don't need a war to do it. This is personal and he's dragging our whole country into it. He'll make every excuse he can to go to war. It should not have taken 10+ years to reach this point.

When he was asked about the Koreans, he simply said "We can handle that situation in a diplomatic way." We've been to war with Korea before also. Korea's weapons are capable of reaching us. The Korean situation seems a little more important to me.

If we do go to war, which we probably will, without UN support, we will end up "footing the bill" ourselves to feed and clean up an area we bombed. Support a country we just have taken control of, if we seize control. Can the US actually afford war and the after effects in the long run?
