Female Webmaster Credibility

I'm curious how people here feel about female webmasters. I believe that a grrl who does the same job as a man here deserves the same respect; but there are factors that seem to affect my own perception and I'm wondering if I am not alone here.
When you meet a girl who runs her own site, but is also the main attraction, do you think less of her? What about the girls who treat you like a web cam customer, calling you "sweetie" or ending their notes with "kisses"?
To be completely honest, I have trouble treating SOME of these women as brainy webmasters, and more as "content". Not all mind you, but I do admit to this bias. Anybody have any feelings on this?

Well, if the girl is a slut and talks to you like your some customer who she can sucker into paying for a webcam show, I don't respect her much unless she proves to be a talented webmaster.

Others who I meet and run and create their own sites, or manage people to do so.. gain more of my initial respect. So if they had a private site themselves, It wouldn't affect in a negative way at all.

Seriously, I don't see any difference between men and women webmasters in the way they work. I think I even prefer women who run their own sites (featuring steamy pics of her and her sexy friends). I don't personally know any of them but the image I have of them is that they are more interested in what they do than men running paysites. From what I heard the women running these sites usually work a lot on them, learn how to use computers and write HTML, etc. On the other hand the image I have of men running paysites is that they do it mainly to make money, no fun or interest involved.
I noticed too that a lot of webmistresses use "hugs" and "kisses" and sweet words when they communicate. Anyone has an idea why ?

I have met both kinds of women in this biz. The smart ones and the flakes, but I think it's not just in this industry, you can encounter this in any job.

Personally I don't have a problem with the "sweetie" or the "kisses". I call everyone Hun and I'm not content and I don't think it makes me less of a smart person.

My take on this, so many women are insecure and it makes them catty!

I agree with funbrunette, a LOT of women (not only in the industry, everywhere) are insecure. More than men I'd say.

I personally don't care if someone is a man or woman. It is all about the numbers sometimes. Don't get me wrong, I think it is nice that some women are flirtations. It does help break up the work a bit to have some fun on the forums.

Now I definitely think that females are better at something than males. Take textlinks for instance, typically females are more creative. They know what the average male surfer is after. So they may even do better. The fact that she calls me sweetie is just a bonus

I guess, I'm just curious Emanuelle as to why you would treat "content" women differently...Let's face it, if it wasn't for them, we wouldn't have any business! Sure, you may chose not to hang out with them, but I think it's unfair to generalize! Some of these woman are very smart! Nina for example...She's a smart cookie!

I just think we should all get along!

Before I explain my opinion, I'd like to urge you to go back & reread my initial post, lest I get branded something far worse than catty this time.

I think Nina rocks- she is a refreshing example of a brainy woman. What I dont care for is women who expect to be taken seriously, yet treating me as a potential customer. I also have a preference for women who are capable of making their living from their brains, not their looks. If they can do both, then teriffic! They will have something to fall back on when they are 40. This being said, of course it is my preference, and opinion, which I hope will be tolerated without further name calling....

I agree with Fun', I think it is perceptually dangerous to genaralise about most things.

I am very fortunate to married to a very beautiful woman who is a webmaster and has modelled for content. Kitty is beautiful, creative, intelligent and a wonderful wife.

Physically:
* Kitty was voted 'favourite centrefold of all-time' by Australia's largest magazine (non-porn)
* Kitty had modelled successfully (adult & non adult) in the U.S. and Australia

Mentally & Creatively:
* Finished college at the age of 14 because of advanced learning skills
* Winner of best small biz (non-adiut) in Australia award
* Holds Marketing Degrees
* Set up and operated sex contents with her former partner, designer,
tgp and site owner.

I like to pride myself on my lateral thinking abilities and Kitty runs rings around me. I would not suggest challenging her for $ to a brain teaser. lol.

Kitty and Nina are two fine examples of women who are webmaster/content, beautiful/intelligent.

I'm with Chris and going to stay away from this subject. I did not read every post in here but I will just say, I see no different between a female webmaster and a male webmaster, its the skills that matter.

I don't differentiate between male or female when doing business
and I don't have to like someone to do business with them.
Simpering female webmasters do not by nature tend to attract a great deal of respect from anyone.
However if the association is mutually benifical ($$) and she simpers enough to the 'right' people (surfers with the $$) she can call me sweetie till the cows come home.

On a serious note:

on of the hardesrt things I found in this industry was just getting a fair break when i stated out - because I was a content model - I even had webmasters who were talkign to me on ICQ ask if they could call me on the phone just to make sure i REALLY was a female LOL

There was a HUGE debate over my identitty at a couple of the (then) big boards - especially as my friend Teen Angel also appeared on the scene at the same time

Ppl believed that it was actually a guy posting as two different girls LMAO
well I think I certainly proved them all wrong in Vegas hehehe

Now that ppl have gotten over the whole "is kitty real?" stage - I don't seem to have any major problems - of course I still get the occasional guy who'll ICQ me every night to talk shit and try to take up all my time - but i soon add them to the invisble list LOL

and yes I still get referred to as "babe, Dear, Beautiful, sweety, love, hon, gorgeous " and whatever terms of endearment ppl liek to use
I don't take any offence to it at all

I'd be offended if they were saying " hey bitch!" LMAO

I think it really depends on the individual female as to wheteher they do well in this biz or not - as has already been stated it's like any other industry really

I put in a lot of work and long hours - anyone who has me on their ICQ list can SEE that lol
I don't expect to be treated any different just coz I am a woman - I put in the hours I do the work and at the end of the day hopefully make a few bucks.
I'm just another webmaster...

Well, from one of the Big Huggers out there...I'm most guilty of the "sweetie, hon, darlin'" etc.

Most of it comes from two sources...

One--I can't remember names to save my life--and "sweetie" seems to fit most. LOL

and Two--I've worked for years in Customer Service and most everyone appreciates being flattered. The best thing about flattery though--even if they KNOW you're doing it, it still works. LOL

I'm good at what I do, I know my job, my niches, and people. I also happen to be one of those people that like to laugh. Many times I'm not taken seriously, or people think that I don't know what I'm talking about at first glance...however they are mistaken. Sure, I'm not a know-it-all, and being a non-technical person in the land of geeks can be problematic...but it takes a lot more than book skills to run a business. My strengths happen to lie in the creativity and the envisioning. I don't know HTML, but I know people.

Do I think that I use the "Huggs" and "kisses" too much--yeah, I probably do. However, in the absense of body language, sometimes it's all we have.

Besides, we run our own business here, and I'm determined to be myself while doing it.

Firstly I know I am new, but hey we are here to post right, so here is my 2 cents.
First of all I take my hat off to any webmaster/webmistress that can make enough $ to be able to live of this buisness, the real problem is the horny boys/men who get into this buisness because they think they will get laid more, it must be terrible being a webmistress knowing that 50% of the people that get in touch with you by ICQ or whatever way, only want to get into your pants, I can understand we're sweetie, hon and so on comes from, its just webmistresses with good manners trying to be nice, when what they really would like to say to them is f*ck off.
My wife often helps me with galleries, updating and so on, we have often talked about, it could be cool for her to have her own website and who knows maybe one day she will, but her butt only comes out at the beach and in our bedroom

As far as I'm concerned, brilliance comes in all shapes, sizes, genders, transgenders, colors. Hell, one of my favorite affiliates is a transsexual escort agency owner in New York that decided to give phone sex a try in all her advertising. Doesn't bother me one bit that I'm called sweety or honey, hell, it's a trip to play into it... at the end of the month, this check is larger than most that I sign

I think it's safe to say that most of us agree on these things! Respect is something that must be earned. However, I don't feel there could ever be a justification to disrespect someone that you don't yet know

Humm... chew on that.
