There are a lot of issues beating us up at the moment. The recession is not over, no matter what "they" say. I just watch retailers everywhere struggling. In Vancouver, supposedly the hottest economy in the country, there are empty shops, retail space that sits vacant and for lease for well over a year. I live in the exotic car vortex of Canada and at the high end...read Chinese...this shit is flying out the door. But regular retail is struggling. Just like porn. Anyone who says they are "on fire" are either lucky or lying. We do well but nowhere near five years ago and most never will. But I never really had big expectations, it just happened.
I do believe, however, we are in a last man standing business and I position myself at the boutique end of the market that is being taken over by large WalMart style box store porn businesses that I just don't want to try and compete with. Walk down any street and there are a ton of small businesses that do well in the face of huge Companies like Canadian Tire. That is the future for all of us. Choose the end of the market that fits and live, work, and prosper in it. My 2 cents.
I am going to be in Toronto at the end of the month, you going to be anywhere nearby?
