Pearl Jam
Any Pearl Jam fans in the house?
I've been a fan from way back to 89 when they first released "10".
Followed them ever since and bought all their CDs...
They have a new release out this week called "Riot Act" and wondered if anyone had heard anything from it yet. They've had a couple of not so good albums recently so I'm not going to automatically buy this one until I hear some feedback...

I was a fan long ago, i saw them at lollapalooza in 92. After that, I started to dislike them more and more. At this point, I change the channel when I hear them

Go to kazaa and see if you can get the singles, if you like it, then buy the CD.

They used to be on my playlist for a long time.
Can't remember why or when they slipped off a few years back.
Maybe it was too draining keeping up with all their political issues (anti this and that like playing in venues because of the whole corporate collusion to keep tickets expensive...).

A few bad albums? EC, you make me cry.
I usually listen to at least one PJ album a day.
Got the new one, it rocks. Not rocks like AC/DC or GNR, but rocks like PJ rocks.. got it?
Either ya like it or ya dont.. I do.

i must have hummed at least 5 or 6 PJ tunes in the last couple of hours since seeing this thread.
one song i do listen to a lot still is their cover of Radiohead's Creep.
i intend to check out their latest and see if i can kick-start my interest in the band again.

Me too, and I thought it was a great CD... I still do, but I think it was also their best release and haven't liked anything else they've put out quite as much. Songs like "Once", "Deep", "Why Go"... nothing on "Binaural" comes close.
I haven't heard Riot Act yet either, I hope it's an improvement though.
If you like that style, check out "Temple of the Dog". It's Chris Cornell from Soundgarden and Eddie Vedder along with a few of the other guys. (Released in about '93)

Are you kidding? You're taking the most respectable thing about Pearl Jam and turning it against them. I'll never understand that attitude.
In fact, I've never been a big Pearl Jam fan, but they earned a lot of my respect when they stopped playing the major label game, started fighting for real causes, and backed Nader in the presidential campaign.
As far as their music goes, though, I'm not really into it... but then, I haven't listened to much of their newer stuff. I might get a cd or two and do some catching up, now that you've brought it up.

Aaron Lewis does a great cover of Black.
I don't mind hearing PJ on the radio, but there's no way I can listen through a full album. I have Ten, good album... but again, can't listen to the damn thing. They're much too tame for me.
An Audio Slave concert? Really? I could have sworn I heard that Chris Cornell ditched the old RATM boys right after they finished recording their album... therefore, no concert.

Actually no, I am not kidding.
I wasn't trying to turn something that they should be respected for against them and I am also pretty familiar with what they were fighting against was and tried to stay informed (for a while).
But like all the other artists that have there own pet causes however worthy (Sting and the Amazon Rain Forest....), when I start to associate their music with them pitching something, I tune out.

That's just a difference in taste, then. I'm the opposite. There have been a lot of bands that I've really been into, but then I heard them in interviews displaying their ignorance, and it turns me off. I like musicians who care about political issues. Skinny Puppy, Ministry, Jello Biafra, Henry Rollins, even Rage Against the Machine and System of a Down... I think it's great that they get involved in things that are important to them.

Steph and I went to see Pearl Jam last night here in Montreal at the Bell Center. This was the 3rd time I had seen them in concert, and I admit it was the best of the three.
They did 2 encores, and the 2nd encore was extended. They just kept playing the crowd kept rocking. Best song of the night... "Alive" (my favourite)

I've never been a huge Pearl Jam fan, I do like a handful of their songs though. Also I saw them in concert, had good seats too, like 6th row.

I've been a PJ fan since "10" came out. I have every CD and tons of live stuff on my PC. Never get tired of listening to them. Many bands wear on me after a while but PJ never has.
One cool thing: a year or two at the Phoenix Forum there was a CCBill dinner up in the hills at a resort at night. The weather was perfect and the food was great and the company was awesome. Someone had picked a bunch of slow PJ songs to play as background music that night. Made the night that much better.

imo, their first 3 albums rocked, first one being the best
Black is a very powerful song, stirs a lot of emotions from teenage relationships
have not heard too much of the newer stuff
