Okay peeps, lots of fun and chatter here but I would like to see more technical threads here. I started this thread so everyone can post their links to helpfull GOOGLE related information.

Anything that helps the webmasters here learn more about ranking well with Google should go in this thread. I've posted this first link which I have found to be a very good pagerank document. I've verified myself a lot of whats in here and it works.

I've learned I can become #1 on phrases I wasn't even going for.

Try TGP blacklist on google....my autosubmitter shows up at top =)

Just a few tips from what I know

a) Don't buy "cloaking" software to try to fool the submitters or to hide your SE pages from other people. The search engines caches copies of your pages so it's just a waste of money

b) Relevancy scoring (imo) has both positive and negative scoring...if meta tags even do have an effect anymore, make sure they're relevant to your site

c) Try to use .htm, .html extensions whenever possible....although my site has done well with php extensions it may have done better on other key phrases if it was listed as a static site (even if I just made .html extentions PHP usable may have helped...but I'm lazy0

d) Get linked on other sites....link popularity seems to have an effect with listings as well

Oh, and in case you didn't know...Yahoo tends to use google's database so get listed well on google, you'll probably be listed well on Yahoo

I seem to have read somewhere that Google isn't relying on meta information anymore, but more on relevancy and link popularity. I doubt that would stop me from good meta practices though.

Anyone else know about this?

Since google is NOT the only engine in the world, optimizing every aspect of your pages is clearly a MUST. I wouldn't focus on any one thing but CONTENT is key these days.

Whatever techniques you use to make sure the engines see the content is another story

Now these may just be my own personal results. I have been testing this for a while, and so far I have found no difference. I have even had my servers parse .htm as php files, just so I would not lose any functionality. Kept the .html files standard html to see if there was a difference and have found none.

Has anyone else had luck with this?

This has been the thorn in my side for months..

Likitystix has never been ranked for "sex toys" in 6 months live and I designed sextoyshopping.ca in 2 months I had it #6 for "sex toys" then ZAP a week later it's not even close to the top 50. Utterly and completely confused and admit SE's are not my forte.

Any help would result in good Karma.LMAO

I have not seen proof that masking your script files to a static html file helps in either spidering or ranking. Most engines these days are looking for even more file types.

One thing to note is that google will follow hard links pointing to dynamic urls (ones with query strings in them ?this=that). If you can get other people to link to your dynamic urls, even better.

Anyway, your entry page is not content rich.

1. I would think if you are targeting 'sex toys' you should make sure you setup a subdomain called sex-toys.likitystix.com
2. Make sure the title says 'sex toys' < make sure you got the space.
3. Description should include 'sex toys' as first two words, then repeat in a normal english sentence the phrase 'sex toys' 2 more times in the desc.
4. Make sure you have the phrase 'sex toys' in the entry page text a few times. Make sure its mixed in with normal english text. Don't just repeat it next to itself, that will hurt you not help you.
5. Make sure your images alt-tag says 'sex toys'
6. Make one of the ENTER text links 'SEX TOYS' and let it point to your main content page.
7. Put the phrase 'sex toys' at the very bottom of the page. Inside the copyright message, or something similiar. The goal being to spread out the phrase across the page as much as possible.
8. On everypage that links to another from your main entry page, make sure EVERY page has the phrase 'sex toys' in it as text or as a link to another page in your site.
9. Make sure each page under your main page, links back to the main page using the link text 'sex toys' somehow.
10. Minimize any outgoing hard links to other domains. If you need to link out to other domains, use a redirect script hosted on your own domain. Make sure the redirect script is in the same directory as your main page (top level). This will help with PageRank for your main content page.

Last but not least.. make sure you have as many incoming links from other domains with the text 'sex toys' as the link, and your url as the destination.

With yahoo and aol using google now, I've found we've got better listing over there now. We got #1 for amateur women. That site is getting like 1000 hits a day now all from aol, yahoo, and google.

I think linking all you sites together help. Getting listed in dmoz, yahoo, and google hep out a lot too. I am no search engine guy by far but I'm trying to learn here and there and figure out why some things work and some don't. I had #1 for amateur pics in aol before they started using google and now my site doesn't even show up. :-(

Thanks for the store compliments.. the cart is a big database/application and we built the template around it and added custom programing. The back end is amazing, very easy to maintain and update.

i took about a dozen domains/subdomains from not-ranked to pagerank 4 on google in the space of one update simply by making a moneybar out of the url's with the keywords i was targeting as the link names

example is http://naked-lesbian-porn.lesbianx3.com/

supposedly in the next update of google, relevant links will play a large factor so i am in the process of changing those sites to compensate

Relevant content is always number one, page content and any way you can make google see it is the main priority.

You should think of PageRank as a multiplier for the final 'score' of your page based on the initial relevant score from content.

Where is Cyndalie, I know shes a google xpert, I've seen her work before.. hehe where are you Cyndalie.. throw everyone some of your tips.

One useful tip I picked up from Google is to try to navigate through your site with a text browser. If you can do it, Google probably can too.

A few other points:

The number (and quality) of incoming links is a major factor. Links from Yahoo and DMOZ carry the most weight.

META tags aren't a factor for Google. That's not to say you shouldn't use them for other SEs, just that they don't play into Google's algorithm.

It's too bad information threads couldn't be tagged in some way so you can easily find them if you're coming to the board just for info purposes. This thread was about to drop off the list again. Maybe the number of threads shown per page should be increased...

I have never seen a board with this. Another thing I had mentioned before for the GFY board was to have a 'funniest threads' section in which threads can be moved after a while after they die, so you can look back on them, rather than people bringing them back to life by replying to them in the same forum they were made. Maybe this board could have something like that as well. It would definitely be unique.
