Anyone here from Canada?
I've been thinking of moving there (or near there) to try and escape from my life. And start life, a new. We went to Toronto, and Markham. Toronto is pretty big and spread out for our tastes. We liked the places on the way to Minonite country. But no to Kitchener, and no to Waterloo. Those towns just look kinda creepy and white trashy.
Any recommendations, or suggestions on where to live?

Canadians on XNations? I don't think so.
As Diva said there are lots of great places to live in Ontario. Toronto is my favourite city but then I'm biased (I live in TO). Niagara Falls and Windsor are nice cities especially if you want to live right next to the US.
You may want to consider other provinces, though. Everybody who's been to Vancouver tells me it's BEAUTIFUL (though I've yet to experience it personally). Montreal is also a lovely city (as Evil Chris & FB will tell you). You don't need to know French to live in Montreal but it sure helps.
Hope to see you soon, eh?

I have to agree with you that T.O. is spread out a little too much.
Vancouver always seems nice, haven't been yet
Montreal is nice as well.

I went to Montreal, and I even met up with someone named "EvilChris"
Montreal was by far the most uniqu place I have ever visited as far as architecture goes. I loved the old buildings, and how all the signs were in french. I liked how nice everyone was.
We had dinner in a moroccan restaurant that was 2 stories underground and they had live belly dancers. And a street performer used me in his act. We had a lot of fun in Montreal.
I can't explain how, but it's just different there.
We would also like to explore upstate new york area.

Montreal!
I'm an American who moved up to Montreal without knowing the French language. People are really friendly here and not speaking fluent French is not an issue. I've met French Canadians who can speak better English than many Americans can.
I've begun to learn French, but it's my own choice, it's not because I have to.
If you do not need to be close to downtown, there is a lot of areas that are pretty cool here. The cost of living is reasonable, and definitely much cheaper than some areas around Toronto.

Wait till our double-taxation hits you, though...
Unless you remain an illegal alien.
The best deal is obtain residency of a banana republic and be here as a tourist, 183 days per year at most.

Nice pics Redshoe!
Vancouver is indeed a nice place, and I have visited a handful of times. What Stuart failed to mention however is that the cost of a house in Vancouver (and area) is about 4x and more of what you would pay for the same house in most cities in the rest of Canada. Vancouver is beautiful but expensive.

Hey Redshoe !!!
If you want to move here pretty much there are 2 cities you want to be either T.O or Vancouver oh wait i think and montreal ...(personal reasons for me though)
If you are a weather person and prefer not to deal with cold winters like -20 you should come to vancouver but mind you its quite pricey to live here , however its worth it ...
STU show him what vancity is all about ... We have it all here mountains / oceans / beaches ...

Oakville, Onatrio is a wicked place to live. Beautiful upscale small city, all the big box comforts and a quante downtown right on the Lake. Only 20 mins to downtown Toronto, 45 mins to Niagra border. If you look hard enough you will find a decent house to buy at a pretty good price.

Are you looking for a city or a town life? The citys have been explored pretty much here. I personally love Montreal, but it's cause I'm from here. I agree that Toronto is fairly spread out, but it has a lot of good qualities (first montrealer to ever say that huh?).
Give us some clues as to what you want. Quiet life, busy life, lots of variety and ethnic diversity...

I'd say your main choices are Montreal & Vancouver, no offence all you Totontonians:-) Both are beautiful cities, if you don't mind a few months of blistering cold, then Montreal is where it's at ... otherwise go west young man!

E.C. Just not cuttin' it eh?
We are looking for good ethnic diversity. I found out Plattsburgh (new york) is like 95% white. We chose Plattsburgh as a potential place because it's only about 30 miles from Montreal. But after hearing that stat, I think we'll pass.
I'm kind of a fat mexican and the wife is asian, the kid is a mix. I just want to live in a place where the little one will not ever have to worry about her ethnicity. Toronto was SO diverse, I couldn't believe it. I have NEVER EVER seen so many different cultures living in semi-harmony. LOL. I can't say they were all nice to each other but from what I saw everyone seemed to get along.
We have lived in LA for 11 years now, and we both grew up in small towns. After being in LA, we both want to return to small town living with EASY access to a major city. (I guess that would make us suburbanites).
So anywhere NEAR Montreal or Toronto is ideal. I like the sound of OakVille. I still have no idea what a quante is, but it sounds neat. Especially if it'n near a lake.

haha... nawww... it's just that Toronto / Montreal rivalry that will always be there. I do like Toronto. I lived there for about 6 months when I was 18. It's a massive city though. If I were to move anywhere near TO, it would be Oakville as Magnus mentioned.
But another beautiful "town life" area is Niagara-on-the-Lake. A very old town which is basically attached between St-Catharines (my birthplace!) and Niagara Falls.
I never gave much thought to ethnicity in my area but come to think of it this area is quite a melting pot of many cultures.

I think that's the major canadian cities in general. Vancouver has a large asian population, Toronto is very mixed as well and Montreal has a huge mix, but there's always that european feel to certain parts of the city too.
If you'd be looking at Montreal, you'd probably want to be in the West Island, which is the western part of the island itself. More english people there.
Platsburgh sucks! hehehe, the only reason it does any business is because people from Montreal go cross border shopping there.

You didn't know about that? Hmm I thought it was pretty well known. It's a long rivalry. Years ago, most of the big businesses were in Montreal, and then because of political problems, they went to Toronto. So there's that reason. There's also the Maple Leafs vs. the Canadiens, huge rivalry.
That and the fact that Toronto stinks and Montreal rocks.

Vancouver is kick ass. Toronto is a great city, too much for you. Ontario has some great places to offer. Lake Simcoe, Petebourgh, Pidgeon Lake, Buckhorn all out in the Kawartha's is great, Barrie and the outskirts...nothing but beauty here in Ontario and in BC.
