Arrow How to go mobile - now!

At long last, 3G networks are being rolled out across Europe that will enable end-users to receive movies wherever they may be. The Mobile operators have spent billions on the necessary licences and infrastructure and, rest assured, will spend millions more on persuading people on purchasing the new 3G Handsets on our behalf!

It will soon be possible for adult content providers to offer their wares to this virgin market. You can be sure of one thing. Many new customers that have a 3G Handset waiting for them under the Christmas tree may soon
tire of the comedy and sports clips offered to them by their networks, and will actively start seeking-out
quality porn ‘to go’.

On a 3G network, content can be delivered to a subscriber in two ways:
- using a packet switched connection in the 3G network. This is what is offered today via the operator portals (Vodafone Live!, Orange Kiosk, KPN iModePortal, etc)
- using a circuit switched connection in the 3G network. This type of connection is comparable to existing (premium rate) audiotext services, enhanced with video capability. These services are new and offer content providers a huge opportunity as 3G networks are rolled out all over Europe.

However, 3G handset penetration is currently negligible since this brave new world is just beginning.

In the meantime, we need to deal with what we currently have, namely ‘2.5G’ . The difference
between 2.5G and 3G is best described using the analogy of web access with a 56K modem and Broadband.
You get my drift. Movies, not the best end-user experience, but pictures – no problem.

With most current cellphones being 2.5G ‘enabled’, you can start making money from the mobile internet now. MMS allows 2.5G Handset users to receive images on their cellphone. Technology
exists that will enable you to ‘mobilise’ your website. You decide which content you wish to offer
your new mobile audience, and furthermore you dictate how much you want to charge. Billing is included for all developed markets. Not only can you have your own branded website with your new mobile portfolio, but also you will be able to cross-promote your existing website to a whole new audience – all 1.5 Billion of them! Unfortunately, the delivery of movie clips on 2.5G is as good as unfeasible, since it is complex.
And the key to the success of the multi-million dollar cellphone ‘tuning’ business bears witness to the KISS principle (Keep it simple, stupid!).

So concentrate on selling pictures via MMS. Include your new service on your website. It will not cannibalise your existing business. On the contrary, it will enhance it. Not only do your existing members now have a medium to enjoy your content in the Restroom and you will be perceived as being ‘cutting edge’, but now casual surfers will convert better into paying customers. Moreover, you will enhance your brand. Hell, you can even promote your new service offline, and generate new customers who see your ad in the classifieds section of the newspaper on the train on the way back from work. Not only will you give the commuter the content he so desires, you can cross-promote your website at the same time!

Welcome to the mobile internet. Existing ‘fixed line’ internet Webmasters with compelling content
ignore this market at their peril. It has never been easier. Set-up costs should be nil, since providers who facilitate implementation are best served by acting as billing partners and absorb their margin ‘at source’.

The content Provider should receive the lion’s share of the revenue. ‘Cause content is King.

I guess I'm still not convinced. I mean, I've read about 100 flowery-written SPAM posts that read more like PT Barnum trying to convince me that I'm about to see the most amazing thing in the world, just before rolling out a wax dummy.

Nobody has explained why there's a need for postage-stamp sized still images to be sold to cellphone users, and for all the promises of billions of dollars, I've yet to hear that anyone has made much other than the people who sell downloadable ring tones.

I mean, are people really going to need to watch full motion porn movies while eating at a restaurant?

OK Point taken, but how about in a hotel room? Or whilst waiting for a bus...

Sceptics also talked down the ringtone idea when I first got involved in that back in 2000. That has now turned into a billion dollar industry in it's own right...

I thought about the hotel room thing, but since most hotels have wireless networks, I think more people would be using their laptops than their cell phones, and waiting for a bus is still out in public.

you may be right, and there may be billions to make off people who can't go five minutes without being able to see naked people... but I'm still waiting to hear that anyone's made any cash before believeing it.

At the moment we find ourselves in a chicken/egg scenario.

The technology is there, the billing is there, the demand is there...

...It's just that content owners are not pushing this - yet.

Watch this space...

See, I agree with you on the first two points.

I don't believe the demand is there.

I mean, I bought a cell phone with web capability, and used it three times before I got sick and tired of trying to navigate through it.

There's just no way I'm gonna want to watch streamed porn on it, and right now,all I can do is look at still images, and if I want to do that, I can download an editor for free, make my own images and upload them..it's just as much of a pain in the ass, I get the images I want, and it's free.

You may be totally right.

But so far, the war has broken out, and nobody has shown up.

Thus proving my point.

is anyone going to pay $1.50 for just one of those tiny images? I can buy a full issue of playgirl for $6.

I can buy a week trial membership to a porn site for $3.95.

a buck-fifty for one image makes little sense to me... but then.. there's the ring-tone thing...

so who knows.

But I'm still gonna wait.

Default Press Release - mobile porn now a reality

New Tool released to enable Webmasters to sell their content
To Cellphones

Txtnation (UK) today officially announced the release the launch of their MPUSH family of
Product, heralding the dawn of a new era whereby webmasters can capitalise on the massive
opportunities afforded by the huge popularity of cellphones worldwide by offering their existing
web-content directly to them.

The mobile telecoms arena is one rare example of where Europe is ahead of the curve relative to
North America, thanks in main to the unified GSM standard that these mobile networks are built..

The cellphone ‘tuning’ market has already become a billion dollar industry in it’s own right, with end-
users already used to paying for content such as ringtones for and by means of their cellphones.

‘This is a massive opportunity for adult webmasters to start selling into this new market now’, comments
Marc Jarrett, txtnation’s Sales Director. He continues: ‘Not only can they ‘mobilise’ their content within
minutes, but we already have revenue-share agreements in place with all the carriers, and in those markets
such where Premium SMS is not yet a reality, we offer credit-card and 1-900 – so we’ve got the world
covered in terms of billing. We are the only company in this space that can offer both content
and billing solutions quickly, cheaply, and efficiently.’

As the networks roll-out their long-awaited 3G networks, in which they have invested in excess of
$120bn, many industry observers are predicting a boom-time for forward-thinking content
owners. Yankee Research recently predicted that mobile porn will become a billion dollar industry
by 2008.

3G will allow end-users to receive and pay for memory-rich content such as movie clips directly onto
their cellphones. However, 3G handset penetration is still negligible, so this a virgin market.

In the interim, content owners can sell pictures by means of MMS, whose predecessor was the
hugely successful SMS – of which more that 100 Billion have been sent so far this year. MMS has
experienced a 400% increase in usage this year, driven in part due to the huge popularity of
camera-phones.

‘Our tools offer a turnkey solution that thus far has been unavailable’, says Jarrett, ‘content owners
can decide what they want to sell, and they decide the pricing’. He continues: ‘They can then cross
promote their new service on their website and now casual browsers who never converted before
will become customers’

He adds ‘This will not cannibalise their existing business – on the contrary it will enhance it, creating a
brand-new revenue stream with a promising future in no time – our tools take the
hassle out of integration and billing, leaving webmasters able to focus on their core business’

OK, I get it.

But I still think that the whole business model and product you're pushing just shows a lack of understanding about what the product IS.

We're talking about porn. Companies that try to sell porn to be used in inappropriate places show that they don't really understand how porn consumers actually use their porn.

Porn, you see, is not a novelty item. A novetly item like a ring tone or a video game is something that can and will sell on a portable medium. Novelty items you can share with your freinds.

Porn is something that the end user will hide from his wife, from his friends and keep as a dirty little secret from his co-workers. He or she uses it for the purposes of masturbation and sexual fantasy. Sure, many couples use porn to enhance their sexual relationship with each other, but they're still not going to be doing that while having dinner at a Red Lobster.

The true consumers of porn don't use their porn on a bus platform. You can't jack off while waiting in a bank line. Porn is something that is generally used in the privacy of one's own home. Sure, you'll get the odd knob who's got a Moan-Tone to impress his freinds or a short video clip as a novelty, but for the most part, I think that the sales pitch that we're getting really seems to show that the entire phone-porn industry doesn't understand the market they're attempting to penetrate.
