Have you tried drinking warm milk or wine before bed?
If you have a lot on your mind, if you write things down in like a journal or even a text file on the computer, it helps to get it all out. What that does is, allows you to begin to unwind and forces your mind to begin to place things in perspective. Some people get in the habit of doing this regularly and it just allows them to begin to clear their mind so they can rest.
If you take medicine, sometimes the drug interferes with regular sleep habits.
Do you get enough exercise during the day?
Maybe it's just the mixed up weather and too many grey days in a row?

I have the same problem I usuallt get about 4 hours of sleep and always have trouble sleeping when I go to bed. What I do to fall asleep is that I read a book, after a few chapters my mind is clear of all everything and I can dose off.

re: insomnia
Wishing you many settled nights of sleep!
We appreciate you sharing with us your concern on how you are
or have been with your troubled sleepless nights.
I strongly recognize that without first following up on your temporary
condition with your family doctor to be able to treat your tension, stress and anxiety and get your endorphins acting the way they ment to act.
"Besides being an unpleasant sensation, when we're tired, we're less alert and less able to respond reflexively," WE DO NOT WANT you falling asleep at the wheel.
Exercise your brain the way you know best. Night 3 is serious and like Panky replied Quote; "write things down in like a journal or even a text file on the computer, it helps to get it all out!" Endquote.
It is well known that you have a new project your working on and this could well be the only reason for such sleepless nights. I don't know you so I have so other suggestion.
Sincerely Yours
Mark

I agree with the sex suggestion
But if you cant do that right then.. take deep breaths stretch roll over sigh loudly and close your eyes and try relaxing each part of your body a bit at a time. Excessive tension can keep you awake and once you reach that so tired you can't stand it stage (I get there often) it's really hard to turn the volume down in your head.
