Things I learned from Playboy 1978
Jeep Corporation used to be a subsiduary of American Moters Corporation
That Cher and Gene Simmons picture with a handkerchief over his face isn't nearly
as mysterious today as it was back then when I was a kid.
The Apple II had a monitor with TV dials on the right side of it. (at least the ad did)
Apple II $1195 (16k memory) sold at computerland
The new size Chrysler Le Baron:
25 MPG Highway
17 MPG City
$5251
Porsche 911SC $19,500
Porsche 928 $28,500
Porsche 924 $11,995
Back then they said things like "ugly mood" today we say "shitty mood" lol
In 1978 Tom Berenger was hollywoods new "golden boy"
Companies that must have approved of porn at that time since they gladly paid for advertising
in a porn magazine.
See companies above as well as these:
Honda
Audi
Fisher (Hi Fi Stereos)
Nissan
Toyota
Volvo
Quasar (They had this cool combo AM/FM radio, digital clock radio, weather band,5" B&W TV Set)
Atari
Renault (Car company)
Jaguar
Sharp
JVC
Lancia (Luxury car company)
OJ Simson did ad's for Dingo leather
And most importantly:
They showed pussy lips but no pink and sold it for money. Today we give pink away for free.

I have a few old ones around here someplace too. It's funny to see how times have changed isn't it?
Apple II $1195 ??? Isn't that what a MacBook costs now?

in some areas, the general price point has not changed for a long time, you just keep getting more and more bang for the buck

I have nearly every Playboy ever printed. I bought them in groups off Ebay a few years back and I have nearly all of them now. They sit in boxes in the closet downstairs. I'm trying to off load them.

I was surprised by that too. I had always heard computers back then cost around $5000
If that were true though it would have cost about the same as a Chrysler Le Baron. lol
What's really interesting is to see how large the gap has grown between computer and car prices. Mind you these are American prices. I remember cars were always more expensive up here in Canada.

And for $1200 you got 4KB of RAM memory. For about $2600 you could get a whopping 48KB of RAM!

I can't remember the exact model of the first computer I ever used, but I remember I had to swap 5.25" floppies in and out occasionally so it could load what I was asking for.
It was a green monochrome screen too. I think it was around 1984 or so.
The first one I purchased myself was a 386 and it was bloody expensive as I recall.

I remember that old clunker of yours, and how jealous you were of my 486DX2-66 with it's monster 120 MB hard drive!
Then we both got those Pentium I-75's when they first came out, and we rocked everyone!

That's true!
I still remember the day I picked up my first "big" computer. You were with me, and it was your guy.. the store you always shopped at. I wonder what he's doing now?
